I have see local(ish) to me a Tilapia buttikoferi, gorgous fish. I nearly bought a smaller one last year but it sold before I befor I got it. She currently lives with a green severum plus convicts and some other fish and is relatively peaceful (doesnt like giant gourami). I am contamplating having her, but I dont know whether she would be ok with the Rotkeil pair, texas, convicts and Bailey (royal acara). My biggest worry is that she is female and it appears that all the texas are male (as are the cons). Just wondering if anyone else has had a tilapia buttikoferi and mixed it with new world. Her owner has offered for me to take her overnight to see if they get on and said he would have her back if it went wrong, very tempted. She is approx 7" so size wize on a par with the texas and bailey.

Being a female, it is well worth the chance IMO, Tilapia buttikoferi are renowned for their aggression once they mature so I would think provided you have the space a female should hold her own fine against the others.

A Male Tilapia buttikoferi on the other hand would become far too aggressive

Thanks Davo, sorly tempted to have her, but decided against it as I dont have a spare "just in case" tank available at the moment. I would be more worried about the texas ganging up on her and doing her damage. Oh well maybe find another one day.

Only buy it if you can sell it on or give it a tank to its self later on because there is literally nothing more aggressive than these things.

it would be the other way roung hunny the butty would have your texas terrified

Yep, they are amazing fish, but as soon as that butti gets settled, thse Texas are gonna get a kick in.

They are best mixed with things like Dovii, Jags, Emporers, Cichlas in massive tanks.

I saw a large male, well over a foot in a 10x10x3ft tank at my local maidenhead aquatics and it was battering the Oscars and Severums of near equal size.
