I have been looking at adding a tank just for my shrimp and maby a Betta, So i was thinking can i some how speed up the cycle of the tank?
I was thinking put the new filter in my existing tank and try and mature it that way, but is there a easier way as i need this tank asp?

Is not not possible to take some of the media out of the old filter and put it in the new filter?
Can you not move a sponge over?
Or some of the ceramic noodles?

What type of filter is in your existing tank?

What types of filters do you use for them? You could transfer media from 1 tank to another and put like 25% tank water. Even then though I wouldn't put all of them at once since it's only some media not all.

Take some filter media out of the existing cycled tank and put it into the new filter. You'll be almost insta cycled that way, and will be instacycled for a mid-light stocking of fish.

You could also clean your existing cycled filter in the water of the new tank. This will seed the new filter ready for cycling.

See i maby should of said this, i have a fluval 205, but has only been running for about a month, when i switched from the undergravel filter, i had a small nitrogen spike as i took the under gravel out and put in the 205,lost 3 cardinal. i has only been running a month but the tank is best it has ever looked.
So is the media matured enough to put in the new filter?
