Adding A Bubbler?

ive had my tank for just over a year, it used to be a dwarf puffer tank, but i got tired of only having a couple puffer fish so i sold them and made my 10 gallon tank into a small community tank. i asked someone back when i started my tank if i needed bubbles and he said i didnt need them. so my question to you is, what would be some benifits of adding a bubbler to my tank? ( i know a bubbler is not the right term... air sponge? i dont know, but hopfully you know what im talking about. )



in my tank i have:

a pleco
a golden gruami
a yo yo loach
a kuli loach
a hill stream loach
two clown loach
and 4 ghost shrimp

used to have a scat but he died on Saturday...

would that help the tank? if it does help it how deos it help adn what would that do? does it hurt plants? pretned like i know nothing about it, over all, what would adding oxygen do to my fish tank?

Well since you will need a bigger tank pretty soon I would guess judging by your stock you could just get a nicer HoB filter on a larger tank which created a good source of water movement as well as oxygenates the water (So I believe). Buuut just for your current stocking your looking at 75-100 Gallons because of those Clown Loach. Simply put though, a good filter should provide you with more then a bubble wand or anything similar.

I agree with mwood, unfortuanately your tank is way too small for clown loaches as they can grow in excess of 10 inches long

i know how big clown loaches get, and im planning on getting a bigger tank soon. but at the moment the clown loaches are only about an inch long, less than that id say 7/8 of an inch. i dont need a bigger tank right now, based on the size they are going to get, thatd be like getting a king size bed as a new born baby, it'd be nice no doubt, but unnecessary.

That maybe so but if you're not careful you will stunt the fishes growth which is bad for it's health

They will grow faster if provided with too much space then too little. Like shoes yes you can wear them one size down from what you are rated at but they are not comfortable and will lead to problems in the future. You do not know the exact growth rate of your fish therefore how do you know the housing is adequate?

Air pumps attackted to air stones are what you are refferring to. They provide gas exchange at the surface due to the disturbance of the water, this means if the oxygen level in your tank is lower then the air above it more water will dissolve into the water, however if your tank is well planted it is possible your water in the tank is oxygenated above the level of the air so oxygen will transfer from the water to the air and be lost. The same is true for all gases so if your pumping in CO2 for plants and have bubbles the CO2 will be lost at a quicker rate so your are being detrimental to your own efforts to provide the plants with adequate conditions to flourish.
