Hi all!
Looking for some help and advice please,
Just bought myself a 2nd hand fluval 305 off ebay,
I have never owned external filters before, but after reading how good they are on these forums, I've been convinced i should be running them on my tanks

my plans are to add it to my Juwel vision tank, which i am already currently running the juwel filter on and plan to keep going

so what i am wondering is,

The 305 filter i bought comes complete with all media and was running for the last 10 months in a snapping turtle tank,
What would be the best way to introduce this filter to my tank, Which is currently very stable and holding a healthy bunch of fish

Should i scrap the media and buy more new media?
clean it all out and rinse the media in a bucket of my tank water?

also is there anything else i should take into consideration?
will it effect my levels in anyway?

Any help an advice would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanx
Ben

I would get new sponges for the sponge section, the rest of the media if its bio rings etc soak it all in hot water and rinse it all thoroughly. The trouble with sponge and turtles is they shed the skin and it clogs up sponges. Soak the pipework too so its all clean then add it to your tank along side your existing filter :good:

Hi mate,
thanx so much for the reply!
i actually changed my mind on the whole thing today and just went and bought a new Fluval 405 for the tank instead
at £90! Bargain! :D

You wont go wrong with the 405, very good bit of kit.
