Ada Aqua Soil - Which Size Bag?

Hi guys/gals.

I was contemplating ADA aqua soil for a new tank I'm setting up soon and I was wondering how much I'll need. I see it comes in 3 litre and 9 litre bags but I've got know idea how much that equates too

My tank is 18"x12"x12" - how much do you think I'd need? Also, how deep should it be?

Ok, another question. I realise ADA is fine for having it as your only substrate, but would it be fine to put say, 1.5 - 2cm of sand on top? I'm thinking about a tank with some pygmy corys or maybe a dwarf puffer even! (probably not though).

I don't think I've heard of anyone do that, if you want to have a sand top, there are far cheaper options. And TBF I'm sure corys would be fine on just AS

Do you know about the NH3 and NO2 spike you get with ADA AS?

I have never used Aqua soil, but I always assumed it was a fine, sand-like substrate? Corydoras would be fine on that, perhaps even better than sand.
