Hi,

I've been searching around for ADA Amazonia substrate for a while, and only seem to be able to get American sites selling the stuff..

- Does anyone know where abouts I can get hold of some online in the UK?

Any info much appreciated.

Paul.

aquaessentials i believe

but don't bother, talk to BigIan he's just got some and it's a complete nightmare :/

Yeh as far as I know aquaessentials is currently the only stockist in the UK.

What makes you say that? The KH thing? With the greatest of respect to MissWigle and BigIan, don't be put off by that, ADA soil is arguably the best there is, yes it has 'issues' but these should not stop you using it. And those 'issues' have actually been designed into the product, so it must be ok. All the top people use it without any problems and look at the tanks they have!

yeah basically he's spent a fortune on it and it's given us nothing but grief, i won't get into all the technicalities as i don't preten to understand it, but having had to live with Ian while he tries to get it sorted I can definately tell you how much agrro it is!! :/

sorry for being negative, i know a lot of the 'top people' use it sucessfully, but that's not our experience.

think Ian's said if he did it again he'd get all the other ADA stuff like power sand that's meant to go under it, just using the soil on it's own aint great :/

It`d be ok if i had a bloody co2 system that worked, right!!!
the ada stuff is ok and i can now work around it once i get a PH test that will go below 5...

aqua essentials is the only place in the uk that stock it

I think one of the 'problems' people have with it is the low pH and KH thing, people immediately want to start adding bicarb to get the KH back up, but it should just be left alone IMO, that sorts out of the main hassles with ADA soil.

But yeh not having CO2 isn't going to help things much!!

Having used nearly every other substrate available, ADA Aqua Soil is by far the best. Not only is it best value for money but plants react the best to it, there are no clouding issues, it stabilises your water after 2 months, and actually looks good too.

Takashi Amano has manufactured a product that all the greats love. Even Tom Barr recommends it over anything else, and if he didn't like it, he'd sure voice his concerns.

I havent been doing the frequent water changes, just doing a 50% weekly and dosing with trace every other day. (nitrate and phospahte present in the tank in relatively high levels) so i`ve not been adding either of those

Right, so Aquaessentials it is then, cheers.

I'm going to go full board with the substrate and get some of that power stuff, and hopefully some clay too [ hopefully will save on heating cable].

The low Ph is exactly what I'm looking for.

Paul.

I have not had a bit of trouble.. 0_o mm.. thoguh.. for PH.. I jsut added some rocks that raise Ph.. haha. i will say this.. powersand makes it work alot beter then alone.. but even when it is jsut aqua soil alone it is great stuff.

you need to be careful what your adding to raise ph when you have Co2, the calcium in things like crushed oyster shell (and possible tuffa rock which i think is what you've added) actually stops your Co2 working so well :/
