Hi I just want to get a bunch of opinions on the use of acid buffer to acheive a neutral ph. I currently have a checkerboard ciclid in my community tank and my tap water has a ph of 7.8

Some people have said they can adapt to this even though my research says 5-6 ph for checkerboard cichlids.

I have been using acid buffer by seachem.

Is it ok to discontinue using it?

Can my checkerboard cichlid handle the high ph?

I would really like some answers on this too. My tap is also 7.8. I thought my fish would be happier if I moved it to 7.2 Every since I have been using it on the past 4 water changes my tank has been cloudy. SOMEONE please answer the importance of 7.0 once and for all. What is right?

Mind you, I don't have any 'me' experience with this, but from what I've seen people have more problems from trying to control the PH than they do just leaving it as it is. If you're trying to drop it the best ways I've heard is putting peat moss in the filter and/or adding driftwood. Having said this, I would wait until someone with actual experience comes along.
