Hey guys,

i went to an aquriums today (not my regular, never been there before, and wont go back), and it was distugting! This Guy had his Bettas in Nescafe Coffee jars and Empty Jam jars with no filter, heater or anything, the water was brown and crap all in it, it was...........*******WRONG! (sry for my language).
i seen this little guy and i HAD to rescue him he wasnt in best of shap but u could see he had potential to be a Beautiful VT with Clear tip Fins, when i bought him the guy turned the jar upside own in the bag and went WOOSH in goes this lil guy water every were and chuckes the lil guy in the bag on the counter, i was like ........:O:O:O ******

anyway this lil guy (called Coop, after Basketball and 'Coop'ed up in a jar) is in his new tank wich i bought immediatly after buying (no 'saving') him, it ended up costing me $80 (au), but well worth it, here are my two tanks now (coops on the left) (neo's and Otto's on right). Coop is looking awsome, very happy now eating and swimming around, he loves it :D

sry for big Post :, but had to let you guys know ;)

the water could have been brown due to having indian almond leaves in the water - or the extract - just brown water isnt bad for bettas

the size of jars isnt bad for them either - if they are in them as temp homes -
i have young males (they will be in them upto 4 months old when they can be sold) in 2 litre tubs - mine arent heated or filtered either - but are in a warm room and have daily water changes with indian almond leaves so the water does look brown - bettas love leaf litter - digging in it so i dont throw away my indian almond leaves i left the fall apart and let the bettas play in it

I'm not saying he runs a good pace - but the bettas could be having daily water changes - with idian almond extract - nearlly all my betta tanks are brown - especially my wild betta - the rutilans tank is like thick soup colour

nah this wasnt liek that, this was just crap growing on the sides of the jar (kinda like algae) bits of crap floating on the surface the jars themselves (the outside) were dirty like theyd been pulled out a dusty spider webbed shed, and just looked soooooo bad dude, and stank even worse like he hadnt changed the water in days, i nearly yacked when i got a waft when iopening the bag.

it was just plan old lost passion aquarium shop, with the attitude of yea wotever get the ***** outa my shop i dont care about $6.50 (the cost of the Betta), just sad none passionate person.

jihad on amazon aquariums! :p haha

Seems to be a common thing , my LFS keeps them in small plastic water cups , the type you get at water font in an office....
I think its emotional blackmail to make people but them, I hope you didn't buy the tank from there too....
At the end of the day the little guy has a better home now :good:

here's a couple of my tubs for males - just a shot to show you - this is when they first went in the tubs - the water is now brownish
due to IAL

yea this was like poo brown :S

hey was reading your sig, u got that many fish, how many tanks u got? lol

my betta tanks are in sig

i've got females 40+ in 300 litre
males 3 in 40litre , 8 in 4 x 30 litre tanks , 2 in 100 litre community - 1 in divided section - other in main section with limias and other safe fish , i also got 2 in breeding traps in sorority tank - temp until 3ft tank divided into 8

when the new ones come they'll be going in the holding tubs for a week

got 2x spawning tanks (with fry in) and 1 x 64 litre grow out tank (with fry in slowly being transferred to tubs (males) and sorority (females)
10 tubs with fry males in - 8 weeks +

I think thats it - apart from the 400 litre and 25 litre wild betta tanks ,

got some other tanks but no bettas in them -- my goodness i'm confused now

now that is cool, are all the tanks in the one room? got any pics of them?

:) thanks, i wish i could save every betta i see but that just not practicle. but we can only try ;)

I wish I could save every betta, too. The newest one I bought is getting a bigger home, but I cannot spend money on all the equipment she needs.

My LFS also sells the bettas in the little cups. . .I guess she's happier in the bowl I bought her, but the temp is only around 72 (22 c) during the day, so I'm not sure I made the right decision.

Any, my babble aside. Congrats on your new betta!

Most people seem to see there bettas at lfs in cups, but at my lfs there in tanks that look about 2l, theres 6 little cube tanks in a row they must be about 2l.
I wish i could save the bettas at my lfs but they seem great! :D Although they cant move much because there so big lol
