Don't you hate it when you have someone who knows all about fish but you know that they know nothing!

I've been told that I have 2 keyholes and a green sev coming my way this week!!!

I don't know what to do. The keyholes are apparently ordered because they may be female and if not will spread aggression anyway and the sev........a gift1?!?!

Aren't sevs a bit on the aggresive side?

I really don't need this, I was planning on my spare space to be taken by some ellioti and now my whole tank is going to be taken by a sev that is going to bully everything and grow big enough to require the whole tank to itself I presume?

May be a severum available soon if someone wants it!

what size is your tank? sevs are generally pretty peacefull

Sevs wont bully stuff in most cases, I hate the thought of someone buying me fish without talking to me first. Worst nightmare! Do you have to take them?

What size tank is it for most of the common sevs you need 75g but if its a heros severus the mouthbrooder a bit smaller can be manageable ie around the 60g mark.

Well the only tank I have available at the minute is my rio 180 with the 2 keyholes, tapajo and 2 bolivians. This was the tank obviously in mind with the gift being the cichlid tank.

I do have hopes of upgrading soon and did have dreams of a sev hence the gift but not yet!

They've been ordered online and payed for apparently so don't know where I stand on cancelling or sending back

very irresponsible of the person i must say altho im sure they meant well. perhaps you could contact the seller and explain what has happened and that your tank isnt suitable and maybe change them for something different ?

If the sev is small enough he would be ok short term in the 180l tank, my little gold is in my 180 temporarily untill I get my other 400 running. I dont have knowledge of the greens, but the Rotkeil are pretty chilled my little gold however was a bit of a toad untill he told the other fish he was the gaffer now its all calm again (only took a couple of days), but it does put a bit of a stopper on the Ellioti, unless your upgrade is sooner rather than later. Saying that I am fine with hanging onto the Ellioti for a couple of months or so as I do have the room.

That's very good to hear! Thankyou

I'll be sorting things out asap as I do really want them!

You got off lucky! :/

My other half (who supposedly knows something about fish...)...

turned up with:

-juvie Pearl Arowana
-juvie Tilapia Buttikoferi (sp)
-1 ft long Butti tilapia
-2" Shovelnose (unsure on species)
-1 ft long Sorubim Lima Shovelnose
-Unidentified scary looking little catfish (now identified as Chrysichthys Ornatus)

Scattered about my poor tanks....*sigh!!* and that isnt mentioning the Malawis he tried to put in my South Am tanks!! And with my discus!!!

Im sure someone here can help you out with your Sev if worst comes to worst :) I adore my two red spot sevs but they are very dominant.

Hhhmmmmm no sign yet, I'm starting to wonder if it was a wind up.

Either way I aint going to be happy!

They arrived..............well kind off.

They were all dead!

Very cold water, which was no surprise as they had been in transit for just over 26 hours!!!

I've never seen keyholes so tiny, you could barely see them. And the severum was just an explosion of what looked like cotton wool from every hole in it's body with massive cottony strands floating from all over its body.

Done me a favour in a way but the sev must have been very sick before it was even sent, disgusting isn't the word!

I would love nothing more than to name and shame but there's the matter of refunding the buyer yet so I don't want to make that any harder for them.

It's like they say with little kittens.... It is more blessed to give than to receive

What a great big mess up from start to finish. Poor fish.

In the end I suspect that it has turned out the best for your tanks, and your plans for them.

I think someone (ie. the person who ordered them for you without discussing it) needs to be sat down and given a serious talking to.

Poor fish, what an awful way to die.

The Keyhole babies survived!! :hyper:

I was so annoyed last night that I just left the bags floating in the tank. When I came down this morning they were swimming around normally. Sev had definately had it though.

So I now have 2 living baby keyhole's with whitespot

I can't tell if they are eating though, they have sunken tummies and just seem to chew any type of food and keep spitting it back out. Will just have to keep feeding and see how they go. At least they have an interest in food :good:
