AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

well he should get fire for keeping fish like this. If I were he's boss I be firing him long long ago for killing so many fishy. poor fishy :(

Mmmm I usually find that if you ask if there is a public call box in the store and tell them you are contacting the press they shift pretty fast. Especially if you then hang around the entrance area telling all the new customers that are on the way in that you are waitng for the press to arrive.
I'm new to this fish keeping stuff, but have certainly done a bit of awareness campaiging of different sorts from time to time, talking to the manager and asking him for the number of his head office is also a good ploy.

Hope it works out

IMCL85 - that's what's worrying - he is the boss of the pet and aquatic area!!!
It's so sick guys. I tried to go today but couldn't get any pictures. I'm going to try Monday although I'm working, maybe Tuesday...whenever I can I'll keep trying and then post the pictures on here...although they are probably destressing to look at. I'll post them though.

fastest, easiest way to get through to these people? point out how much money they're "flushing down the toilet" by not caring for these fish.

and then give them our webaddress and explain how knowledge is free.

Unfortunately, these companies don't really care about the fish. If they break even or even lose a little on them, they more than make up for it on the tanks, filters, food, gravel, etc. that they sell. Fish are simply what the retail industry calls a "lose leader". After all, in their minds "they're just fish".

Hi, I am 12 and at millets farm centre I saw exactly the same thing  so I wrote to the manager and he actuatly left  because he had enough and the whole store is 150 times better trie that :) what results for a 12year old :)

that's not always the case, just in discount giants. unless a place significantly and regularly reduces prices below competing LFS, its pretty safe to say that they are expecting to make some money off their fish. "loss leader" or not, they can't recover any money on fish that die in the tank.

the cheapest way to sell healthy fish is to practice healthy fish-keeping: clean water, proper food, proper temperature, and quarantine procedures. daily maintenance isn't free, but it costs much less than medicines and does wonders to prevent fish from just dying "on the shelf".

before you go so far as to call watchdog groups onto the store, try contacting the manager and explaining in clear, positive terms how he's wasting money. as chaz illustrated, making the manager aware of the issue is often the first and last step in improving conditions. its also the simplest step.

Sarah,

Sam hi!! Someone else in my area!!! YAY!!!!
I'm probably going back on Tuesday or Wednesday to try and take more pctures as the last few didn't work. I want to speak to them as well and it would be nice to know that there was someone else who could back me up if needed.
I live in West End, in Gordon's School by the way so close by! YAY !!

You could always apply for a couple of hours, twice a week volunteer work to show them exactly what should be being done. The sense of self-worth you will get from actively helping yourself would be 2nd to none. You never know, they might actually start to get interested in fish properly, and you may see a full turn around in the shop's attitude and appearance...

I had thought about that but finding the time is the issue right now. They're the worst round here but I also work for another LFS and take care of their sick and injured fish. And I work with children and I am a part-time artist and have a list of work I've been commisioned to do!
I am trying to find the time though as something needs to be done!

Sarah we are so close I live in Windlesham.PM me if you want to get in touch
