Hi

Was just doing some water changes and had one of our digital thermometers in the bucket of fresh water. The reading was 26c. However, it felt too warm to the touch? I put a couple of glass thermometers in and they both read 35!!!!!

Digital thermometer was 9 degrees out!!  The thermometer in question has "ST2" written on it, and has the usual probe on a wire attatchment.

We may be in the "digital era" but sometimes Old is best :good:

They are definitely inaccurate. I recently had a concern about one of mine (Coralife). I ended putting a second identical one in. The probes were no more than 2 inches apart and there was generally around 2 degrees F differene in them. Oddly enough, I had them both out this past weekend while doing water changes. They were laying on the table for probably a day before I remembered to put them back in. Now, the same 2 thermometers are only .3 appart, still within a couple inches of each other.

The digital thermometers with the wires are good in that they give you a reading quickly, but they are apt to go off when they get wet. This is hard to avoid when you're using them to check tank temperatures. I've ruined several of them. I've been using one of these for the last several years and it seems to work well.
