my kribs fry are big enough to go into my main tank till I find homes for them.
My question is if I put the filter from my small tank into my big tank without plugging it in will the bacteria still grow on the filter sponge so I always have a filter ready if I need a hospital tank.
Thanks

The bacteria need good water circulation to grow. It would be best to actually use the sponge filter in the main tank to keep it cycled.

I was going to put it where the water from my main filter flows back into the tank.
I am trying to save electricity cause my bill has went up £40 a month this winter which is why I was going to move it into my main tank instead of moving some fish into my small tank to keep it going

yeah sounds like it might work, bit hit and miss but with good flow around it you should maintain *some* bacteria on it.

i wouldn't trust it to then support a full tank load of fish but you may be able to support one or two in a hospital tank.
