I've seen several posts about the merits of sand vs gravel substrates. My question is about the different types of gravel, and the ease of cleaning.

My poo-for-Britain fish are in a 10g tank. I have what I see as being a 'regular' gravel where the individual pieces are about {} that big. I am likely to change the gravel (a mixture of natural and black/neon) in the medium term future.

I have seen in various LFS's (lucky enough to have about 6!) a type of gravel where the individual grains are about { } that big.

Given my lack of tank-floor space and blatant incompetence with a gravel vac, would a chunkier gravel be preferential? Or does it not make much difference?

Advice appreciated.

Cheers guys! N

Larger gravel leaves more room for detritus to get stuck inbetween. The smaller the gravel, the less likely for detritus to get stuck inbetween. That is why in sand substrate, all the detritus lays on top.

And therefore sand is eeasier to keep clean and with frequent vacs will look lovely!!!!!
