A Lovely Suprise, But...

Aye, my main concern is that I actually live away from uni- I go back on monday, and will be back in about 2 weeks D:. Another big reason as to why I was going to wait until Summer to get a betta.

Hence why I want to clean the tank as much as possible before then. Unfortunatly I wont be able to take the tank back with me. I will ask my dad if he'll do water changes for me in the mean time, but we'll see. Also dad seems to be over feeding a bit, so I really need to clean the whole gravel really o_O Thats why I asked about taking Thor out whilst I do it. The loaches will stay out of my way, but I dont want to risk hurting Thor as he didn't really get the idea to stay out of the way when I cleaned the tank on hursday :p

Also, what is in there is mainly caves, and the loaches are so dirty that I need to sort the tank out for their sakes too.

Luckily though he didn't seem sulky at all. The only thing I have noticed is that he is a bit of a fussy eater. I need to get some betta pelets for him, as he keeps spitting out what I give him now. He will take blood worm, etc. but thats not something I can feed him on everyday. Freya is a lot less picky and will just eat whats given :3

I'm in the same situation with my tank. I visit home every fortnight to sort the fish out. I also had to teach my dad to lower the amount he fed them.
I do 60% changes when I go back and have lots of live plants to keep nitrates in check. So far they're absolutely fine which is good :)

Aww thats made me feel lots better about the situation now :) Thanks for the re-assurance <3

I think I'll give the tank one last day? And then do a big(ish) clean up tomorrow before I go back on the Monday. I don't want to stress Thor out too much by doing bigish water changes so soon after another. Just a little concerned about the mark on the top of his head, but it doesn't look too bad- not sore or red. I'll ask dad to keep an eye on it, but he'll probably just say I'm being daft :D I do tend to worry far too much about mah fishies >.< XD

Yeah, the main problem was with the corry pelets that he was putting in the tanks. Waayyyy too many, but I've asked him to put certain amounts in each tank now, so it should be better :)

I just pointed out I'd been feeding them for 2 years without anyone dying of starvation. So the fact he felt they needed around double the amount was ridiculous.
I explained it would cause an ammonia spike if he over fed them. Then he was telling me 'oh they still look hungry...' and I told him to leave them cause they'd been fed.
I woke up the next morning to find rummy nose spiralling round the tank looking incredibly ill. Tested the water...ammonia spike.
Went to him, shouted at him, he couldn't understand how I knew he'd fed them...till I showed him.

I finally drummed the point home after that. Lol.

Fish do get nicks here n there. I had a gourami that insisted on shoving it's head into a small hole in a rock. She got a bit of a cut on her head but it healed fine without any medication. Sounds like you know what to look for infection wise. So all you can do is keep an eye on it, or get the family to.
