As I've now got a single young fry to look after (see 'Looks Like I'm A Foster Dad Again'), I've bought some Liquifry food on the way to work tonight. Right at the end of the English instructions it says ''Liquifry can be used to culture Brine Shrimp''. But doesn't tell me how. Could anyone tell me how it's done, please?. As simply as possible............

The liquifry is small enough for brine shrimp to feed off. I wouldn't use it though coz it could be a pretty expensive way to feed brine shrimp!! :)

If you want to grow the shrimp to adult size you can use wheat flower, egg yoke, yeast....to feed the brine shrimp. At least this way it will work out much cheaper! :)

To grow brine shrimp you need:

1: a bottle with the base cut off and inverted to make a V shaped container (lid screwed tightly on!!)
2: an air stone that will reach the end of the bottle so that the brine shrimp eggs can stay in suspension.
3: salt, I use marine salt...you only need about one teaspoon per liter of dechlorinated water.
4: Brine shrimp eggs!!! You can buy these off e-bay or in your local store.

I suspend the bottle in my large fish tank where the water temperature is 25 degrees celcius and a pH of 8. This is the same water that I use in the bottle. I add in the required amount of salt into the bottle and put in the air stone to allow for complete mixing of salt before I put in the brine shrimp eggs. You can then leave this for 24 odd hours and you will have hatched brine shrimp swimming inside the bottle. I use a pipette then to suck some out and feed to my fry..I'm still learning so I have yet to try any other methods but so far my fry are loving it!! :)

You can buy brine shrimp hatcherys but seriously...its not required and you can save yourself alot of money!!

To then grow the brine shrimp to adult hood it is important to have a seperate fish tank since you will have to make sure that water conditions remain stable and water changes are possible to keep toxins down!! You just make sure that they have food all the time using the food types mentioned above!!

Best of luck with it!

Thanks to both of you; it seems a little.........involved, especially for just the one fry. I'll use the Liquifry until it's big enough for powdered flake. Thanks again for the replies.
