Does anyone know of a site with good info on starfish? Every site I've found has been very basic. I'm interested in learning more about them. Thanks.

I think that the members on this forum are more than capable of telling you all you need to know about starfish :)

What is it you want to know?

Chocolate Chip Starfish are often sold as reef-safe, but they are actually indiscriminate feeders, preying on any animal or algae that they are allowed to crawl over. However, they are good for Fish-Only tanks as scavengers, and they are very hardy starfish.

Which Star are you looking to buy

I have no doubts people here are very knowledgable. :) I was looking for some general information, you can never know too much.

I have had a chocolate chip starfish for probably 3-4 months now. My tank is around 6 months old and this is my first salt water adventure. I also have a new serpent starfish that I just got the other day. I was a little concerned with a few of the things my starfish does, but after looking at the lfs I frequent, I'm not so concerned any more. Both my urchin and starfish have been on the top of the water with their mouths facing up. I was just wondering what they're doing when they do that. My CC starfish also leans over near the surface so a few of his arms are on the surface and the others attached to the tank. I thought he was dead at first, but when I touched him his tentacles moved and he sucked his insides back in.

I feed them mysis shrimp every other day. Is there anything else I should be feeding them?

I think that covers my questions for now. Thanks.

Get that sucker out of there! My Chocolate Chip Star tore my Pencil Urchin in two! And he also devoured my Serpent Star. I loved my Chocolate Chip Star, but not enough to feed him the other animals that I also loved.

But the behaviour you have described is, to my understanding, normal. Something to do with how fish tanks are not as deep as the sea.

I will try to find a good starfish site, too.

when i first started i had a choc star i didnt do my research and eventually took him back to the store but he used to go to the top of the tank and stick a few arms out of the water so that was when i fed him you just put a little at the end of one arm and he will move it to his mouth with his suckers, he was a great guy until i found out that if he died i could count on everything else in my tank dying also! good luck
