Hi guys,

I`m well into my planted tank and love the fish don`t get me wrong, but plants are my real obsession.

I have 2 ottos, 2 plattys and 15 cardinals.

Was staring at my tank tonight and noticed a yellow eye under the glosso, it was a baby platty.
I`ve looked all night and occasionally see it, i have to admit its pretty cute lol!

I`m affraid i`m continuing with my EI ferts and weekly water changes as normal (they have breed in these conditions so they must be very happy) since i can`t afford for algae to take hold but promise to care for it as best i can.
I wasn`t expecting this and could really do with some advice??? feeding, do i seperate the mother ect..help! lol

For feeding, flakes/fry food can be a staple. High protein foods (frozen, live, freeze-dried) will be good for growth and health, however don't feed too much, because it can cause them to bloat or get constipated. It's also a good idea to alternate in some veggies. Most anything works, mine seem to particulary like zucchini though. It's a good idea to blanch or boil the veggies, just to soften it up a bit for them. If you decide to go for peas, you'll need to shell them. And of course, feed them 3-6 small meals throughout the day, for the best growth. They have tiny stomachs, so food goes through them fast!

Since you have a planted tank, you don't have to seperate the mother. The fry should be able to hide pretty well in there. What other fish do you have, any big fry eaters?

Have you checked out Your First Baby Fish? That should answer most of your questions, and there are other helpful stickies and FAQs too. I'd suggest you take a look at them, and if you have any questions after that, ask away!

Oh, and congratulations! ;)

Thanks,

They seem to be hidding and chilling in my glosso and microswords. Lol, i wasn`t too impressed at first but now i find them pretty cute!

lol

Thanks again
