The only problem with big tanks is once you are used to the size and it starts to feel small again the next step up is HUGE

I'll second that, my 100G is already looking small to me now :/

call it "organic" melafix if you like.

nope I'll call it melafake :)

I do however use pond melafix which is a 5% solution, not 1% as with melafix,
so the dosage is 5 times less thus the bottle lasts 5 times longer for a very
similar inital price but the savings are greater.

API MelaFix 473ml £10.99 Source
API Pond Melafix 473ml £17.99 Source

Why not just add 5ml of tea trea oil to 100ml of water then? Whatever strength you buy melafix at all you are doing is buying a large ammount of water some emulcifying chemical ingredient and a tiny ammount of tea tree oil, £10 or £20 for that seems a lot to me when you can buy the enough to make 4 litres of 1% solution for about a fiver.
so where do you go to get pure tea tree oil???

so where do you go to get pure tea tree oil???

any decent health food shop should sell it.

BTW
teatree oil is made from Melaleuca alternifolia,
melafix is made from Melaleuca callistemon.

If your tank has started bowing, you'll need a new tank sooner rather than later. Once they start to bow, only one thing is going to happen - the pressure on the weakest part of the tank will increase until you have an indoor swimming pool. Can you take some water out to try and ease the strain?.

Yes we have removed a little of the water but it needs to be a certain height for filter to work and we have done this knowing it has to be changed. The problem is hubby has the most money and also decides what we have then I can say well you bought it lol. We also have an autistic son whom I would not have an empty glass tank near as he loves the sound of glas when it breaks so we have weekend when he goes to my ex's and then we can organise.

I just did not want to go to lengths without giving it thought as to what a large tank may cause.

I am aware there are bigger fish well even the common cod would be too big to put in a tank at home.

We have just redecorated so apart from accidents I hope to leave it five years or so before revamp. Moving the Rio 400 was as much as we really could move between us and all that water stones and catching fish was stressfull.

I think perhaps deep inside I know I do not want them to go but a smaller corner tank like the Jewel 350 would be better.

I would like to keep neons but then big fish eat them and I like Angels and Discus but they ae fussy.

I adore the colour of the red parrot but they are kept alone so.
I need a community that will be placid but give something to look at.

My clown are acrobatic climbing up and down acting dead and look at you as if well then feed me what you watching me for.
My Balas chase round and round and jump up and down and are big enough for me to see and not hunt for.
My green barbs look like gossiping fish wives always gong together and occasionally have a ***** at another.
My golden Gouramis is queen and glides showing at times how big she can be. I am queen be no-one comes near me I get the food first and on no accounts forget this is my bit of the tank move away fast.
Then there is my darling Gibicepts who when your not looking does the cleaning, loves to laze in his log and accepts the guard of the clown loach and allows the barbs to sit on his back, but he's my most special fish who when cleaning his eyes looks as ifhes winking at you and when your feeding him oak bark discs comes with it in his mouth as if to say' Look what I've got' he also seems to smile.

Mad about my fish and then the family will all go I'll get the most awkward one that die quickly or fight with each other or well are not what I am used to.

Perhaps I give up.

Will be looking at tanks today so will soon change mind.

I have one a hair bigger, and I can tell you I could never go back to 'Smaller' tanks. the 'little' 55 gallon looks so cramped.

I know you said apart from, but do think twice about the weight unless your area for the tank is on a cement slab. Between the tank weight, gravel, water, and of course all the stuff that ends up stored underneath, I would suspect mine weighs in at close to 2 (US) tons. Thats like parking a truck in your living room. Also, even though your floor may be good for it now, don't forget, at some point, it will get wet most likley (at least in my case more than once). At some point, something will leak.

The only other thing (you were looking for cons) I can think of, is ponder if you are ever planning to move. These tanks are a huge PITA for even a small one.
