How long might I expect a 88g co2 canister to last? I know -- how long is a piece of string? Ball park figure though, 1 week, a month, six months? I'm thinking of doing co2 but don't want to buy a co2 kit for n pounds only to find the cost of running it is prohibitive as plants are not that expensive and I can get a lot of plants for the price and running costs of a co2 system.

TBH we'd need to know how big your tank is for even a rough idea, the other thing to think about is if your not bothered about the plants dying and the cost of replacing them then you also need to think of what the dying plants are doing to your water column as it wont benefit your fish to have dying plants. If I were you and wanted little costs then make sure you have very low lighting and low maintenance plants.

The plants don't actually die very often as there is of course co2 in there from the fish. I have some broadleaved plants, don't know the name, and they do OK. I cut off any dying leaves and new ones grow behind them. I was thinking co2 might give me larger plants and cut down on any algae (which seems to like growing on my moss annoyingly) but as I have said in another thread I have decided not to bother with co2 at all. Unless I was growing plants with the intention of doing it commercially I no longer see any point in the expense and concern of messing with my water.

Can't come out of this message to see who posted the last missive about the 95g canister lasting two weeks only but thanks for your input, that has convinced me not to do it; seems very expensive.

EDIT: Noahsark6 was the last poster. Cheers again.

There is a picture in this months PFK that shows Jeremy Gay using the 88g on a Roma 240...
