75 Imp Gallons/ 90 Us Gallon Tank Ideas

The tank is the c-Dream B1200 with the footprint - 122 x 44.5 x 76.

Also i currently use a fluval 405 external filter + a 90litre per hour? internal filter with powerhead....

I am thinking to remove the internal and replace with my spare fluval 305 external to get some good overfiltration

to be honest you don't really have anywhere near enough filtration for a tank of that size,
the filter guideline of upto 100G isn't what you want to go off

409Litres tank
851LPH +90LPH = 941 LPH in total

gives you 2.3 X turnover per hour, For any setup the minimum you want to be aiming for is 5x turnover, and more if your keeping messy fish,

even with the 305 (700LPH) on top of the other two, you only are running at a 4x Turnover

90 usgal might seem big but it's not when you are dealing with cichlids. I would stock it like this.

1 severum
1 blue acara
1ebjd ( if you are up for raising him first before you add him to the tank.
And a school of large tetras for dither fish and a BN pleco.

But thats would be copying my tank. Yet it works.

Or take the ebjd out and you could add the firemouth or maybe 2 rainbow cichlids.

Just don't over stock a cichlid tank no matter how good your filter is.

Right i wasnt aware of this, i thought a 305 & a 405 would be plenty! They dont tell you these things when setting up an aquarium!! all i got with my tank was a 405 and a 305 with an older tank of 270 litres. Had no idea i should be running so much filtration.... Thanks for the advice.

I was hoping to get a new Fluval G6 (released on the 31st i think) for an xmas pressie which runs at 1000lph itself so combined with my 405 would give me enough?

I would just get a fluval FX5 personally its not as fancy looking but it sits in a cupboard. Its got a better turn over and its generaly bigger and costs around half of the RRP of the new G range. A lot of the reviews of the new fluval G's have been pretty bad as well.

Just emailed my mum to tell her how much i want the FX5, how much it will help the tank/fish and nudge in that direction for a xmas pressie :)

Would a Red-tailed black shark go ok in this tank?

I used to have one and they are pretty tough (although my golden algae eater pestered him to near death- those things are crazy yet everyone tells you they are peacfull!)

Depends what you are keeping it with...your initial stock list is a bit random...as random as keeping Oscars with Neons lol

Ok so the stock list would be:

1 Blue Acara
1 Sev
1 Firemouth
1 BN plec
1 Reedfish
6-10 Tiger barbs
1 RT Black Shark?

Yeh will be cramped tho in the end...youll be shocked how big Blue Acaras and Firemouths get.

My old Firemouth was aslong as my Severum and nearly as deep.

I think if you over filtrate and up waterchanges...could be fine, watch the Firemouth tho as everyone i have ever kept has been a pain in the butt.
