hi
a few of you may remember when we got our fisrt tank 12 months ago. it has been meaning to upgrade to a 6ft tank for a few months now.
last week we went looking at a 6ft tank with stand and nothing else.
the stand was not in a good state so made new doors and also extended the sides and front so that it covers the sand level and seals.
freshly painted in gloss white. (needs more coats still)
got an enheim 2217 external.
300w fluval heater.
i wil get some pictures up this weekend when we move the fish in.
we gave up with the few plants we had in the previous tank as they got eaten, so any plants that may survive with the follwing fish would be great.

clown loach
red tailed botia
fire eel
gibbi plec
arican knife fish
clown knife
pengasius
red tail shark
opaline gourami
golden gourami

the pngasius and knife fish are very recent as a person we knew needed to make room so we bought the lot to help him out.
in the future when they are big enugh we will also have some skunk botias to add but at the moment they are in the 120l tank as are way to small to go with the big fish.

also in terms of the lighting we use 5ft watertight twin light set ups with flourescent tubes. would these be useable within the tank.

ohh i fogot to add that the aqua one 1200 filter will be coming from the 300l tank to cycle it along whilst i find another filter to then alos do the same with before i remove theaqua one filter back to the 300l tank so then we can decide what to do with that.
so will have two external filters all the time.
i am right by thinking that if i use the filter thats in with the fish in the 300l tank it will cyle the enheim ?

If you add a cycled filter but don't have a source of ammonia then the bacteria will have nothing to feed them.

i will be transfering thentire contents from the 300l into the 6ft tank. fish filter heater rocks ocean rock (raise ph as my waters shockingly low)
terrocota pots etc etc
will this be ok?

dont you think twin fx5s would be a bit overkill?
they are rated really high

Depends on what stocking you will eventually be keeping i guess. But usually a tank of that size will require more than one decent filter. I guess you would get away with adding an fx5 along with the 2217.

that may be the best plan.
jus need to source one as we have just spent another 50 pounds at the lfs on bits and pieces.

well the transfer could not have gone any better aprt from losing one of the black knifes the night before. (seemed as though something had spooked the pengasius and they seem to have smashed into it time and time again.
we really cannot believe how well all he fish are doing in the 6ft tank.
all seem very very happy.
now we are looking at trying to finish of the stocking (add some new fish remove some old)
currently have the following.
2 albino pengasius 4inch
2 pengasius 8inch (possibly sell)
4 black knife fish 8inch (selling two)
1 clown knfe fish at 7inch
2 x clown knife fish at 3inch
2 x tinfoil barbs female 7inch male 6inch
2 x 6inch fire eels
4 x 4-6inch clow loach
5 x red tail botia 2-5 inch
1 12 inch common plec which may have a new home thus week

would like to up the numbers of the botia and clown loaches.

we were also thinking that we could use the old 300litre tank to breed some fish in there. if any of the above fish are posible to breed could you please comment.
also looking to add more plants but have never had a planted tank.

what fish could we add and what would advise for stocking.
should have some pictures up tomorow night of the tank and fish.
