64Ltr Stocking Ideas Please

Have started my qualifying week and are trying to compile a fish stock list but haven't a clue what to get. The only thing I am sure of is what I don't want and that includes Platties, Danios, Bettas and Cory's. Would love a couple of main showy type fish but not sure of my options. My ph is not great at 7.6 so I guess that limits me too. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm going round in circles at the moment and the more I look the more confused I am getting. Here's at least one 'expert' (25 years in freshwater fish) opinion on your pH range, which should encourage you on being able to pick from a wider range of fish, at least:

7.6 pH

Call me crazy but pH isn't a huge deal you have quite a bit of leeway if you acclimate the fish. The only time were pH kills a lot of fish is sudden changes of +3 or more. I've safely had discus at 7.6 (short term) but no problems. It just comes down to maintaining the pH level. Of course its best to stay close to their preferred PH but in most cases I'd say a pH from 6.8-7.8 will keep most reasonable freshwater fish happy.

That's the same as mine. To be honest I don't take a lot of notice of PH. Maybe that's wrong but I don't.


Tho when I got my Pygmys yesterday I tested the shop's water out of curiosity and theirs was 8!!!!!!!


Their Ammonia and Nitrite was 0 I was pleased to see.

Thanks for all the response guys. Looks like you are all spot on about the Ph. The guy i'm getting my fish from raises his fish in a Ph of 7.8 even his Discus seem to thrive so feel much happier now. My daughter wants an Axolotl. I'm not sure I could get my head around having one of those though. She thinks they are sooooo cute. Me...i'm not so sure lol
