Hello all,

Just a bit of advice really. I am really keen to get some sparkling gouramis for my 5 gallon (UK) Hex tank but I am wondering if I could in fact keep them in there. I have read various articles and some say less than 10gal is fine although some say 10gal is minimum. One of my LFS's have some in a tank currently undergoing treatment but they seem fine and are just gorgeous. Every time I go in there one particular one comes right up to the glass in line with my nose.

Alternatively I could get myself a betta although I did have a betta before who struggled a lot with the current in the water from the Fluval 1 filter and eventually developed finrot although parameters were fine.

There is nothing which lives in there full time except for my 2 pentazonas who are currently quarantining for my 15gal. I would get the new fish after the pents go in the bigger tank.

Any advice would be fab.

Thanks

Shiv

I would advise against it personaly but a sexed trio (1 male, 2 females) of sparklers may be alright in a 5 gallon as long as you ensure the tank is cycled to begin with and plant it heavily to provide all of them with plenty of hiding places. Let me emphasise that you need to either sex them when you buy them or be prepaired to 're-shuffle' if you find you have more than one male later on. Note that sexing young sparklers at your LFS is likely to be impossible.
