55g Discus Tank

Well after checking craigslist and talking with my parents it seems that a 90 gallon might be another option. So if you could stock this what would it consist of (has to include discus and tetras (cardinal and rummynose) , possibly loaches, possibly angel fish, possibly plecos, possibly cories)

Alright so for the 90 I'm thinking something like: 5 discus, 3 angles, 25 cardinal tetras, 15 rummynose tetras, 6 kuhli loaches, and 8 cories. Would this work? Dimensions are 48 1/2 high x 18 1/2 wide x 25 3/8 high.

That would look nice, very nice. Its odd to get a tank over 2ft deep or is that including the hood?

Anyway, the stocking would be much easier in there and you could quite easily have a big shoal of 50 tetras.

Yeah a 90 Gallon is 48 1/2 high x 18 1/2 wide x 25 3/8 high. At least it will give me more levels to plant some depth to it. Do you mean 50 as in 25 of each or 50 of each.

Hi, if you can get a 90 gal that would be great lots more room for fish, a 55gal can home 5 discus max with afew tetras, bristlenoses work well with discus.

So get the bristlenose instead of the cories? Some people say that they aren't good for discus tanks because they aren't good for the warm temp. ?

bristlenose's are the most common plec that people keep with discus and they cope fine in that temp and don't suck on slimecoat like some plecs.
Start slowly with the discus, tetra's and a couple of bottom feeders and it will be easier to keep clean and fish will settle better, and that really is max for a 55gal, with plenty of water changes and a good filter when they have settled you could poss add another couple of smaller fish.
The best other tankmates i have with discus are rams and apistogrammas, beautiful fish worth thinking about, the angels were ok too just need to keep an eye on tthem.

I admit i am abit overstocked at mo and the discus def don't like it but 2 of my discus are normally in a breeding tank, but having a move around this weekend and some are being moved to my new fishroom.

( i'd go for the 90gal just think of the extra fish you could have )

That's what I want just need to convince the parents. All the things that come with the tank new would cost along with the tank is -$ 1915 He wants it gone for $200. ITs a bargain. I will check into rams and apistogrammas.

I like apistos more than rams, also thats a really good price.

sorry can't say on here i'll get drawn and quartered , i'll tell you after i've had my change around lol,
plans are to go back to basics with my rams and apisto's staying and torpedo's and angels going to community tank, they were originally in community but i had to pinch it for my discus fry. The rams are aggressive little fellows and if breeding will even take on a discus 5x his size but the apisto's have always been fine even when breeding and hang around bottom of tank out of way.
( love to see pic of your yellow dragons, thinking about gettins some or yellow crystel, also need some blue based females)

yea, i had the same thing a while ago, it was a temporary measure as the tank was leaking and the thread eventually got closed.

Are gold rams sexed the same way as german blues? Also what are the 2 discus on the third and second from the right on your sig?
