5 X 2 X 2 Or 6 X 2 X 1.5 ?

Hopefully looking into getting my new tank sorted soon. It will house my Oscar, Sevs and my Jade Eyeds. Will also be home to my L001 Plec and my Chrysicthys Ornatus Shovelnose. Would a 5x2x2 or a 6x2x1.5 be best? May also consider a 5x2x1.5 if people think this would be adequate?

I would go for the 5 x 2 x 2 mate....as its a got a larger viewing area....even better if you got the space for a 6 x 2 x 2

I would have said the benefits of 6 ft over the 5 are nowhere near the benefits that the 2 instead of the 1.5.

Can you not squeeze to a 6x2x2

i like my 18" depth tank (not height), it look just about right for my room, not saying i wouldnt want a 6x2x2 but it wont fit in my house very well, but if it will in your pad, i say go for it

Current tank is roughly 2ft deep now so that shouldn't be an issue, just considering whether 2ft would stick out too much

I'd always go for the biggest you can fit... considering adult sizes of the fish you have I'd be looking to do the 6*2*2 as ideal, and only resort to 5 if necessary. Also I agree that 18" depth probably wouldn't be enough, that's why I'm looking at 21" as minimum on mine... we're in a fairly similar situation with our wet pets and I think we'll end up with very similar tanks

Would also chuck my Ellioti in there i think too.

Other members have similar fish in 5ft tanks, some even in 4x2x2.

Is length better than width?

Your oscars are going to need the 2ft width to be able to turn around and swim properly as adults. Answers that one really...

5x2x2... though a 6x2x2 will make a huge difference...

when i had Keith in my 5x2x1.5 he was fine and could turn around no problem and was happy but i would say this size tank would have to be the very minimum for a fully grown O. if decor is at a minimum its fine but if you want plants, loads of wood etc then it wont be big enough im affraid.

personally i would get the biggest you can fit in. 6 or 12 inches might not sound much but it does make the difference.

Cheers Matt, yours was the tank that made me consider the 18" depth as this is what he wa sin before. Hmmm... Maybe 5x2x2 then. Although i could fit the 6x2x2 in the space where the 4ft is. lol.

I have the space for a 6ft, just need to flog some stuff to pay for it Missus and Kid should just about cover it... May have to add a tenner or so though.
