Is it possible to keep 2 small female bettas in a 5 gallon tank well decorated with plastic plants and ornaments to hide in. I'm moving soon, not sure when---we are kind of packing and I'm trying to eliminate from 2 tanks to just 1 for my two youngins. Now I do have 3 unused 10 gallon tanks sitting around but I was hoping to pack them, however I can set it up and possibly get another female or 2 to go into the tank. How many females would be OK in a 10 gallon--would 2 be OK or should I at least bye 1 more, the tank will be certainly covered with hiding places. Also I was wondering what would be a good way to transport bettas in a truck? I thought about putting them in the containers that I bought them in and putting them in a cup holder of the truck, change them out daily with clean declorinated water.

Two will not be okay. They will get all mad at eachother and there will be no others to take out the aggression on. Even if you had a couple more, a 5 gallon would not be large enough for that many. If you were to put them in the ten gallon, which would be smart, get two or three more. And as far as transporting goes, it dependson how long this truck ride will take. :/ It will take multiple days? Hmm. I think you need something a bit larger than the cup you bought them in... Even if you keep it clean they'll get stressed out and won't be happy at all... could possibly develop some disease...

I would say use one of the 10 gallons and put 5 in there with lots and lots of hiding places, or you could divide it and keep the two in there seperate, but I would not keep two together alone, as they might tend to 'duel'.

Its either 1 female betta in a tank or 3 female bettas in a tank, if you put both in there one will become dominant and pick on the other one and stress it out and maybe kill it, even if there is a lot of hiding places they will still be picked on, even with 3, 2 may gang up and pick on the smaller one. You could Divide your 5 gallon and keep them both in there, and 10 gallons I would put 3 females in there but still remember what can happen.(I stated above) I dont know the best way to transport bettas but what I would do is go to your LFS and see if they will give you 2 bags and just put the bettas in the bags, they will be fine in there, you could probably change the water in those if you wanted to or get more than 2 bags from your LFS and just add new water to another bag and put the bettas in there.
