Hoping to be picking this tank up this week, after a bit of ummin and ahhhin i decided to go for it. :D

But now i am totally stumped on which way to go with it. Do i use it as an upgrade for my current stock or should i go with a few different fish?

I have read ZZ's thread from top to bottom and backwards again and i am still non the wiser. Also read Verminators journal from start to finish again as this is a similar sized tank to mine.

Current stock that i have at my disposal spread over 3 tanks is :

1 Ellioti
2 Jade Eyeds
2 Honduran Red Points (but these would probably be kept out of it as they're happily breeding in their own tank.)
2 Angels
2 Anomalochromis Thomasi
4 Columbian Red Fin Tetra's
3 Platy's
2 Pitbull Plecs
2 Bristlenoses
1 L001 Plec
3 Bronze Cory's

Also have a group of 12 Harlequin Rasbora's coming soon.

So... :D Do i use it as an upgrade or do i get a few new fish for it?

Other tanks are a 3ft 180 litre, 2.5ft 125 litre, and a 2ft 90 litre housing the breeding hrp's.

How would you stock everything?

In the new four foot I would do
1 Ellioti
2 Angels
6 Columbian Red Fin Tetra's
8 Bronze Cory's
2 Bristlenoses

And then maybe something else in there, some kind of top dweller like hatchets or some kind of nice rare livebearer? Headstanders etc?

In the 2 foot 90 liter, keep the HRPs as they are - maybe some platies or livebearers as dithers?

Then in the 125 liter
2 Anomalochromis Thomasi
2 Pitbull Plecs

And stock around them - maybe go with a few African Barbs and dwarf Synos etc :)

And in the 180 liter
2 Jade Eyes
1 L001 Plec

And as above really keep adding to it :)

You have 4 tanks and 4 really nice set ups that you can make from them as well :)

Wills :)

Thanks Wills, sounds excellent. The new tank has changed now, it's 48Lx15Wx18H Would the stocking still be ok as you mentioned? I guess so as it is an all around bigger tank than their current home.

I have noticed my L001 has had some of his fins nipped quite badly of late and the only thing i ever see bother him is the Ellioti so i guess it would be a good move really.

I want some black ruby barbs in one of my tanks, which would you suggest i put them in and how many? Definately uping the numbers of the Red Fin's too, but would adding just 2 to the existing group of 4 be ok or would they get picked on? There is one definate boss of these and he keeps the others very much in check.

If i was to get rid of the 90 litre, (running out of corners and rooms in the house!) where would you put the HRP pairing?

Thanks again mate, really appreciate your help :)

Hi no probs :)

The 4x15x18 would be fine the same as the other :)

I would put the Black Ruby Barbs in the 125 with the Thomasi

And if you had to get rid of the 90 for the HRPs I would put them in the 180 with the Sajicas but it might be iffy - Or you could put the Ellioti into the 180 and the HRPs in the new 4 foot.

Wills

Brilliant, thanks Wills. I may keep the 90 litre just for them then... What would you suggest to use as the shoalers/dithers in the 180 with the Jade Eyeds and the Plec? Just so you know, it's the Spilurus rather than Sajica's.

Thanks.

Dithers for the Jade Eyes, any of the disky tetras should work - Bleeding Hearts are a good choice as they are so fast! You could go Central American biotope though and go for Blind Cave Tetras and/or Swordtails.

Wills

Not fussed on the Blind Cave Tetra's, they're evil!!! Like the idea of a biotape though :D

Also just seen a blue texas at wharf aquatics... made me want a 5ft tank. :(

I really would NOT add a Texas in with any of those fish, apart from possibly the Jade Eyes. Only because they can give as good as they get sometimes.

Considering the Texas as a lone wet pet... would that be ok?

Check out my other thread CP
