hi all, im getting a 450 litre juwel asap, and i'm not really good at stockin questions as many of you may know :S

i was thinkin of these:

X1-2 Severum(s)
X1- BGK
X3-Blue Acara
X2 Elephant noses (saw 1 at my lfs the other day, ace :D)

any more cool fish i can add to the tank or have i reached limit (minxfishy i know you'll crack up lol)

As I've said before get the tank THEN whle cycling plan the stock. You can't mix elephant nose and BGK.

i was thinking it would be better to know what i can add to the tank before i can get it so i can research the fish, see tankmates, even ask some questions on TFF so on before i get the tank incease i make a mistake

and if you're like me, the planning/researching thing is all part of the fun :)

YEAH ME TO I THOUGHT I WAS LIKE A NERD BUT ITS COOL LOOKIN UP FISH IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WOOHOO!!! :hyper:

To your current list take out the BGK and i would get 4 severums this allows a hierachy to become established. If you get blue acara strive to get a male and 2 females these will be better together then an alpha male and alpha female dominating a single subservant male, I would get 4 just to create 2 of each sex so a hierachy can again be established. A shoal of loaches would make a nice addition to the current list.

so as it stands it looks to be either:

X4 Blue Acaras
X4 Severums
A shoal of some sort of loach
Some other fish
OR
X3-4 Blue acara
X2 Severums
X2 Elephant noses
Some other fish

thanks & cheers

I'd leave out the elephant nose - they are incerdibly sensitive and too shy to keep with big potentially bolshy cichlids.

I also think as you already have 1 clown loach and 3 Acara these MUST be the focal point of your stock, you should add 3 more loach once you get the bigger tank - or you should rehome the loach asap as it's not right to keep one alone and right now you've not room for more.

If you have 2 males and 1 female acara then you need to re-home one male and maybe get another female.

I've never kept mixed cichlids so wait for someone who has to advise on the viability of keeping severum and acara together.

whats cool indigoj is that the clown loach plays with the tiger barbs its cute  & im not really sure which is male and which is female in the acaras thanks

could i keep the so called bin lids as what u would call them lol  (Discus) with them or are they to fragile to be kept with sevs & acaras?

bin-lids best on their own lol.

You want an active, tough tank? ok how about the 3 acara, 3 senegal bichir, an 8" or so plec something like L001, L007 or similar and 4 clown loach. You'd need BIG filtration and a strict waterchange regime but it'd be a fab tank.

this will help these are my top ten fav fish :D in order:

1# Black Ghost Knife Fish
2# Acaras
3# Severums
4# Peacock Eels
5# Macrognathus Circumcinctus'
6# Clown Knife Fish (although it would be impossible to keep them in a 450 litre)
7# Armoured Bichirs
8# Scarlet Plecs
9# Angel fish
10# Freshwater Datnoids

1# Black Ghost Knife Fish - IMO too sensitive
2# Acaras - keep these as you've got them already
3# Severums - maybe? Any cichlid expert who can advise?
4# Peacock Eels - again keep as you've already got
5# Macrognathus Circumcinctus' - ditto
6# Clown Knife Fish (although it would be impossible to keep them in a 450 litre) - as you say, get too big
7# Armoured Bichirs - very nice, likely to eat your eels though, my choice would be the 3x Senegal
8# Scarlet Plecs - lovely but expensive for one at a decent enough size to go with your existing stock
9# Angel fish - not with acaras and sevs
10# Freshwater Datnoids - too big

also what about your clown loach? - it can't stay in 240l or alone
