Hi All,

I currently have 4 male and 4 female platys. I was given the fry and
have only checked as I wish to buy some more from my LFS this time. i
didnt know about the male female ratio before. I want 2 more fish.
Should I buy 2 more females??

Thanks,

Dave

Well what size is the aquarium? You said these are fry. How old are they? You can happily have three per ten gallons (if you are following the one inch per gallon rule), so for ten platies, you would need around thirty gallons. Do you intend to breed these fish?

Adult platies are two inches so that's five per 10 gallons?

I've always thought they were three inches. However, because OP has a 40 gallon so it doesn't matter. Besides, I prefer to over estimates size.

I would certainly get 2 more females. They won't get hassled as much
