3Ft Tank Build

Just Neon tetras.....Cardinals are larger, and more vivid here but come with a larger price too lol

Interesting. The cardinal's, unless it is another breed, looked smaller than the tetra's in my local fish shop.

But yeah I do like there vivid colour. I suppose they are worth it though :p

With Cardinals the red goes full length of the body....Neons it only goes halfway. They are both actually very close in adult sizing, with the Cardinal being slightly larger...its the price difference that made me choose neons ($2.27 each, compared to cardinals at $8.32)

The neons are not far of being as beautiful and flashy, especially in a large school :)

Update - Some plants ordered & fertz ordered (Dino range)....cant wait til they get here!

Yes. Cardinals have the vivid stripe blue going the full length too don't they? I took a visit to my LFS today (and acquired some new shrimp among many things) but when visiting, I had a look and they specifically breed them as Cardinal Small. Hence probably the size confusion. But for me, I chose Neon's as well because in a big group just as you say, still a vivid colour. And the cardinals are similar price to what you said. I also picked up a co2 system for the tank so hoping this is going to help to maintain healthy plants. Glad to hear all is well, look forward to seeing the new plants.

Never heard of dwarf Cardinals....and why would that do that?  They aren't exactly giants in the first place lol

I think that means they sell them at a small size rather than say adult size, right?

I'm not 100% sure myself either! They are just listed specifically as 'cardinal small'. Will have to check again the next time I am there!

Update:

Plants arrived, and have been added.  I've also added another school of neon tetras, and will be expanding the school some more over the next week or so. Also added 3 juvie peppermint bristlenose, and some cherry shrimp

Will update pic once the plants have settled in a bit (stems need to straighten from the packaging)

Well thats a suprise.....i bought another 10 (or so i thought lol) neons to add to the 11 already in here.......they gave me 20!! so there is now 31 neons in the tank.....only need to add 9 more now to be upto stock. I will be adding two dwarf gouramis to the tank also i think. something a bit bigger, but not too big

Added 2 new fish to the tank today, might yet add another 2, will see if these guys play nice first lol

Just major trimmed the HM, geez it makes a mess!! Replanted most of the trimmed bits, 1 at a time, hours later lol its looking pretty good. Very soon i am going to have to trim the stem plants, they have grown quicker than i anticipated lol.

The dwarf gourami are playing nicely together, very happy with that. I think i will add another two and see how they get along (no drama if they dont i can move them to another tank)

So updated pic (The stem plants need a trim, so ignore the straggly bits, they will be fixed up this weekend)

I've noticed a few of the neons are missing, normal thing, they are not terribly hardy sadly. Remaining are eating well and look great though. The 2 dwarf gourami are still playing nice, though i think the blue one is the boss. Cherries are multiplying and their colour is really red.

Tank looks great! If you have time I would love to see a shot down the length from the left side...I'm always jealous of the nice driftwood I see in others' tanks. Hard to find anything like that where I live in USA.

Thanks :) Will see what i can do for a length pic this weekend :)
