Received a 31L tank with filter built into hood for xmas and am looking for suggestions on stocking. What would you put in it if it was yours? The more unusual the better! (i.e. don't really want some white cloud mountain minnows or small tetras)

Hi, i have 89 litres, which is 23 us gallons, so 31l is about 8 us gallons

theres not much you can do, with bigger fish wise..i would suggest some type of a schooling fish. i know you dont want neons but come on..every body likes them! :D there small and you can get like.. 18 of them in there prolly..they would be sweet to watch at feeding time! you can wow your friends with them :p

sorry not take many fish!! i would start with 6 neons and maybe a small agle eatter!

8 gallons, hmm. I suggest a betta. Maybe 3 or 4 females. I use to have three female bettas in a ten gallon tank and they loved it! It was so intresting to watch them. Whatever you do do not get a goldfish though, 8 gallons is far too small for a goldfish.

or You could get some fancy guppys, their small and pretty.

Make SURE that they are females, because if you get 3 males they will fight till theres one male left...and he could die from being hurt from fighting!

Good idea on the bettas tho i would have never of thought of it..even though i want one my self :)

Thanks for the ideas :good: , saw some tiny fish in my lfs called blue lamp eyes(white with glowing blue eyes) might give them a go. Anyone know anything about them????

They're killifish, don't grow too big and a group of size is what I would keep. They're african, and I imagine would look fantastic against a planted landscape.

don't do female bettas. they need 10 gallon very planted MINIMUM and MINIMUM of 4 girls to spread the aggression, preferably 5+.

you could do 1 male betta and a trio of otocinclus or pygmy corys
OR
a group of endlers
OR
a group of pygmy rasboras
OR
a dwarf puffer and a trio of otocinclus

and plant it so it looks all pretty :D

OR
if you have hard water and fancy a challenge, shelldweller cichlids
