Yeah me too, I just lost an Otto the other day.. and I found him a couple of days after he was dead.. he was white in color...

Its hard to find dead fish in a planted tank... I can keep track of most of my fish, but its hard with the algae eaters, I can hardly find them most of the time to make a count...

oazanki:

Did you have the real SAE? I heard that only them can eat the BBA

and its a pain to clean that algae of the leaves manually

Yes they are Crossocheilos siamensis Siamese Flying Foxes. Mine were not bought for algae eating but even so I have noticed them not to be the 'miricle' everyone goes on about.

DrOizo:

Watch out with maturing SAE's though

That's false flying foxes, the 'real' ones are kept best in a group and are peaceful throughout their lives. The CAE are very different and they get nasty when they get bigger and only one should be kept in a tank.

Anyway, this is besides the point. You have a very nice tank! But why not tackle the cause of the algae rather than get any more fish? I think high NitrAtes can be a factor as well as light. have never had the 'hair' algae so there must be something that causes it.

I'd be a little worried about the Chinese algae eaters... Dunno if you know this, but as they grow older they will become intolerant towards their own species. They might get aggressive towards other species as well, and eat less algae when they're older. They also grow big, 6 inches or more, so they'll eventually outgrow the 30g. For that matter, SAEs also get a bit big for a 30g too...

Hehee, the pic with the mollies and the tiger barb is funny, because it looks like the barb is peeking in saying "Can I be in the pic? Pretty pleeease?" ;)

Morrgan giggles at Cheese Specialist's sig.
Sorry, I thought you were a bloke too. ;) Should have known better than to jump to conclusions, for I am often mistaken for a guy too...
