Hey there, im a newbie with a new tank who has probably fallen into so many pitfalls whilst setting up my first tank that i wouldnt expect anything less than contempt from many of the members here!

Anyway so i was sitting down on my laptop with the tank in the room and i hear this really weird noise. Like a fast repetitive snapping noise, so i look into my tank and my new male blue/3 spot gourami is close to the front of the tank, and he starts opening and closing his mouth really fast! t was almost as if his teeth were chattering?

The most surprising thing about it was how audible it was! Is this normal? Could it be to do with oxygen maybe? i saw a couple of bubble escape his gills as he did it, and i see him to go the surface as if he were eating food now and then maybe to get some oxygen?

I dont have a test kit so i am unsure to all the nitrite/ates etc. levels. ( i know ) But any help would be great, thanks!

I believe some gourami make a croaking noise, which is natural!

Phew well thats good to know! Although it doesnt sound too much like croaking i must say..
Does this mean my fish is getting randy then? it doesnt seem to like the female too much, he chases her around the tank every now and then.

I'm not up on gourami's thats why I said I believe some gourami make a croaking noise, which is natural! but I do not know all species that do.
