I first saw this plant on youtube when I was creating a stock list and figured it would make a great centerpiece plant to go with my grass carpet. That was roughly 3 months ago and despite my search am yet to find anywhere that has them in stock.

It would seem that in London a lot of the lfs are set up with their bottom line as the main concern. Which is understandable as business is business but the result of this seems to be that they are staffed with people who don't have even the slightest idea about most things aquarium related. I have phoned and spoken to a number of lfs trying to get this plant but at best they are not aware of the plant and have no need for it's scientific name as the aquatic plants they get in are to them just that, aquatic plants.

The only good fs that has clued up staff has been flaking on me wherein they have at least heard of the plant and have previously had it in stock but for some reason are not able to get hold of it anymore.

I have been through every google link (first ten pages or so) in an effort to find this and came up with one online store that had it listed. Placed the order plus an extra £10 for fast delivery but that was a month ago and today canceled the order for obvious reasons.

Any help would be appreciated.

That looks like a plant that I had in my tank for a while it completely over ran my tank, Im not the best planted buff but it grew and grew on a daily basis it must have been growing about 6 inches a week.... not sure if all hygrophila are like that but just a shame I chucked it you could have had tons of it.

I do particularly hate his plant due to the fact when I got rid of it down my garbage disposal (just the cuttings) it always clogged it haha...

Hygrophila corymbosa I believe is what you're after,
http://www.aquahobby.com/garden/e_corymbosa.php

If that is the case, then here's the
"Angustifolia" version.

I actually keep a few specimens of this plant myself, the Angustifolia, and found it to be nothing but trouble, even with direct sunlight, aquatic lighting and ferts etc.

Hope the link helps.

To be fair I don't think it was the same species as from everything I have read/researched about this particular species doesn't match your experience. Though I could be wrong...

Thanks a bunch Vic

I have looked into the Angustifolia species and wasn't too impressed from what I heard. So have stuck to my guns and kept search for the Giant Hygrophila instead.

Cheers Simon

Unfortunately it's not stocked by that online store. They have several ecological variants but not the plant I am looking for.

I was about to jump for joy but that is an eco which turns red, Giant Hygros don't.

Thanks Paul

I'll email him asap

Thanks everyone for sharing my pain  Finding this plant really isn't easy.

I am, are you not?

EDIT:

I'm not sure which varieties they sell: I need more food so if I go tonight on my way home I'll have a look and see the varieties; although I think it's delivery day so I might not be able to look properly :(

Yup I'm from the UK, London to be precise.

I hope they do have it or can at least get hold of it. I don't care what the delivery cost is either. As long as I get it then I'm good.
