I've had my 3 female bettas for about 6 months now. However it hasn't turned out quite like I planned. I wanted to have them in my 10 gallon all together, but they fought enough that I was afraid they would kill each other. I had them in seperate smaller aquariums for a few months but without filtration I had to change their water all the time and I wanted them to have more room. I ended up putting them back in the 10 gallon with two dividers. The filtration seems to not work as well on the two sections that the filter isn't in. I'd really like for them to be bale to be in a ten gallon without the dividers. Anyone have any solutions or ideas? I'm really loving these girls and they seem to have way more spunk than any of the males I've had.

3 female betta's just won't help with the aggression, you need to get at least another 2 to help the situation.

I would never personally have less than 6 females together, even then there will be a little initial nipping but once they sort out the order of things it should calm down.

I had to split my girls up. They might have calmed down but I couldn't stand to watch the aggression.

Well it depends how long they fight for. When I was putting together my sorority tank (I have 7 females and some neon tetras in a 29 gallon) I had 2 that went at it for awhile. At first, I did seperate them for awhile, rearranged the tank, and put them back in. They started again, and I just left them. After a a couple hours of on and off sparring, they stopped and now they got along great. Not too many ripped fins out of it either! My advice would be to try and wait it out. Also, I have heard at least 3 females together, but the more you have, the more the agression is spread out. So you may want to get a few more.

I hope this helps!

Thanks! Maybe I'll try to get two or three more. That would be a lot of fun if they could all get along. Thanks for your tips.

So I got three more females, making it 6 total. I'm kind of worried about them though, how long does it take for them to establish their ranks? Its been 24 hrs and they're still pretty fiesty. Two of them seem a little tattered but the others just have a place where it looks like someone took a nip or two. I've got quite a few plants and 3 small pots in there for them to hide in.

How are the girls ? Still fighting ?
Good luck ! The plants should help ....
My 2 girls were fine for 12 hours without divider but I was afraid so I separated them again. All they did was swimming together.
Let me know.

I got a very good idea!!!, get 6 sydofroam cups, make a hole at the end u would drink from and put them in the tank as ''houses''. u might whant to put them separated.hope that helps remember to be creative, u can even make a betta village!!!

let ur imagination soar!!! :good: :good: :good:

ur welcome, :fun:
u can even plant a "garden" with wal*mart's breeding grass :good:
ps i do not buy anything fishy from wal*mart but supplies

I couldn't stand to watch them pick at each other anymore so I divided them up again. Maybe after they recover I'll rearrange and reintroduce and try again. But for now they're getting bettamax for their torn up fins. They all seem fine though, I think they will recover nicely. And now I have 3 more pretty females to look at out of the ordeal :)

Sorry it didn't work out ....

How big is the tank in which you keep the girls. Maybe is bigger than 10 gal .....

It's a ten gallon. I think that is most of the problem. I think they need a 20 to be able to get along.
