Hey all,
Dad wants a tank apparently. I told him I'd help him if he did it right. He wants a big cichlid tank, like multiple oscars big. He said he would go up to a 200 gallon. Is that big enough?

I'm worried it might get too hairy if they don't all get their own 2 feet.

It definitely might be hairy... will he consider doing 1 Oscar?

I don’t know anything about oscars but I think that would be to small for 2. Also show him other cichlids like green terrors, severum, etc

200 gallons tank is about 760 liters which is at least 6 feet in length.
It can fit many types of large fish.

Actually to me, Oscar is ugly..
Sorry to say this though there are people who love them for their intelligence and responsiveness.

Why don't you suggest the Eartheater species to your dad?
There are many species for him to choose.
Here are some information about Eartheater.

He really only likes oscars because he used to have a big tank full of them down the street from him. I've been showing him other cichlids so he might open his mind. He likes flowerhorns so thats cool.

Depending on the foot print of the tank multiple Oscars can co-habit in 150g+

Tons of New World Cichlids that would work in big tanks - couple of guys on youtube for some inspiration :)

Both really knowledgable on bigger cichlids and amazing long term tanks. Both have written multiple books on the subject and Jim was recently on the Aquarium Co-Op podcast talking about Madagascan Cichlids :)
