2ft Light In A 4ft Tank

Would it be possible/out of the question if I was to use a redundant 2ft light kit at right lux etc on one side of the tank along side my existing 4ft tube to give that extra bit of light for the plants?

Or is the norm 2 x 4ft tubes?

It depends on what light levels you are after. People are often shoe horning more lights in to get>2WPG.

The tank may look a little unbalanced with higher lighting at one end, so couldn`t you place ot more centrally?

i have loads of starters for my 3' tank that i plan to use in my 4' tank...i guess it'll be more crampt and you might be less able to play about with the wpg but if that's what you've got to play with go for it.

obv the best would be the same type of lights but c'est la vie!
