:shifty: What fish would go with a cray? Should it just be species?
i'm aware of deaths, cause these guys are real quick. :) But yeah, what fish have you had success keeping with a cray?
I want a musk turtle with a cray. Turtles > Crayfish in a food chain, but would it work?

If I were to get a cray 2" (already have) and a musk 1". Would that work?
ADULT = Cray 8"? around that. Musk = 4" (Loggers go for 5, pretty sure the stinkpots get to 4.)

Possible? I've checked youtube, and I've only seen fights between Crayfish and Yellow bellies, or Red eareds.
No musks, though.

i would advise never to put an immature cray with fish. doing this can make the Cray see fish as, Danger. as they mature they, may, attack fish because of this. there is no rules, you just have to try and see the result. as for the fish i have kept with Redclaw: common pleco, firemouths, green terrors, gurami, banjo catfish, cory, usd cat, featherfin synos, angels, silver and red tailed shark, khuli loaches and silver dollars.i would however warn that 29g is a wee bit small the 2 cray and fish too. i would normally advese 50ukg minimum for that

The minimum size is 20g.
I was told the minimum is 10g, so i'm rehoming him.
(US GALLONS I'M USING. Which is larger? )
Alright, i'm gonna play the waiting game 'till I get it to be a mature cray. ):

Ahh then i assume you have a north American Crayfish. 10 g is, often, ok for them. but these are not the crayfish to, even, attempt to keep with fish. most, though not all, cause problems when kept with fish. but most importantly. NO North American cray can be kept at tropical temperatures, for any significant length of time. they are all temperate to cold water critters.
unfortunately there is only one, so far, that is Tropical. the Australian Redclaw/cheuxquad. this needs 20ukg minimum, to be kept on its own, 30 with fish. and two would need 50ukg with fish.( i would suggest 80ukg).

most people think all cray are the same. which, broadly, is true. but when you look into it, both water requirements and environment vary greatly. though most can stand temps in the high 70's, only the Redclaw can, successfully and healthily survive up there, indeed temps of 85f are part of its breeding cycle. keeping any cray, except the Redclaw and, possibly the Mexican dwarf, at tropical temperatures. is not only unnatural for them, but unhealthy too.

Alright, I'll post some pictures of him, okay?
(As soon as possible, probably after a water change.)

He's like, 2-1", around that. ):
And the temp is set to 78F. (My submersible heater is set to that, automatically. I hate it, but hey. My other heater exploded on me.)
): They were sold as "Baby Lobster."
Gee, it was really popular. I understanded the needs, but I knew it was either a Red Claw, or a Blue. I'm not sure but I remember a shade of blue on my cray once. But now it's brownish, so yeah. Haven't checked the claws, though.

Also, continueing on at the baby lobster thing, many people bought it. Stupid people! They mixed so many fishes with them, as the babies were very cheap.
Oh man, do I feel sorry. I remember a lady ordering 4 for her 20 gallon tank. But whenever I speak, no one listens. I'm just that random kid with his opinion, unless someone backs me up. :) :shifty:

yeh pics would be good, but if you cant get them, and can draw. you could post your impression of the ridges on its head. this would provide the best idea of the species.

its the lot of people who have knowledge, in this hobby, to be ignored or derided for their concern for aquatic critters. especially if you work in an LFS and are young. stick to your guns, though you need to be extra polite, as you will often be saying things people don't like. ultimately, even if you get no back up, you will know you have done your best. and with a bit of luck, you will change the attitude of just a few customers. if you do this, you can be sure in the knowledge you have done more for the hobby, than many of us ever manage.

i keep oscars, featherfin synos and pictus catfish in with some red clawed crayfish. i used to have angels in with some others but they had to be reomed due to the crays attacking their long fins when they rested.
i also have a red claw in with a cumberland slider (turtle) but my turtle is very young. i would never advise keeping a cray with an adult turtle!

if you take a peek under google images - type in crayfish - have a look through the pics, maybe you'll be able to id yours :)

You need really closeup's on the head?
Or what? I'll get out the camera. :p Just the whole body?

He's like 1.5" or she. I can't do that! Really sensitive, too. Jumps way too much, even if i try to feed it using a skewer.
): I can try closeups though.
:) they'll be up, after I do a waterchange.

lol no, i didnt mean to take her out. just the area i needed.
you she? if you have sexed her, you will know if its north American or not. they have very different reproduction layout to Australian cray.

if you are interested, and patient enough, you could start hand feeding now. if you are lucky, she will start to sit on your hand, as she eats. some even crawl up your arm, out of the water. but it takes time.

I've raised her/him since it was 0.5".
It still isn't tamed.
if it pinches, will it hurt? ): Thats what I'm afraid of, pinching me, and i freak, and somehow knock it over. ):
I'll try that, but hey I got another question. Gravel or sand?
Sand is just getting the best of me. I hate it so much.

getting pinched, is a shock, but not painful. its a case of resting your hand on the substrate, with a bit of food in the palm. then you just wait. after a few minutes, slowly take your hand out. over time she will view your hand as the, provider of food. if you are lucky she will sit on your hand and eat.

sand or gravel? well, to a certain extent, its down to the Cray you have. but my advice would be gravel, about 1/8 inch grade. many cray like to burrow and dig. if you have sand, this tends to let waste get trapped, as the cray digs. ideally you would use, crushed coral, some use crushed oyster shells. this is not only a good substrate for the cray, it offers buffering to the water too.

alright, next visit to the mall I'll get 2kg of gravel. :)
I still don't have the picture though, sorry. ): I'll try today. Yesterday was a huge disaster in my community tank ):
