I am going to have a 29 gallon Us tank soon, and I am wondering what to stock it with. I wanted to have sailfin mollies, danios, and something (maybe cories), but I don't want to go brackish and loose the danios.

Would a 3-spot gourami be ok in this tank, or would he get too large/eat my danios? I know a definately want a school of danios (I love the little guys  ) but I would also like 1 or 2 big centerpiece fish, and maybe some cories for the bottom of the tank.

How about this:

1 blue gourami
5 cories (type undecided, possibly peppered)
10 danios
? shrimp (type undecided)

i've heard aslong as your water is good then mollies can live in fresh water but it is a risk

I have a 29 stocked with the following:

2 Angels
1 Red Fire Dwarf Gourami
6 Rummy Nose Tetras
6 Spotted Cories
4 Ottos

It works pretty well for me. The Angels are definitely my fav.

Like i said before your idea is good level of stocking but just be wary of the mollies keep the water clean. but just thinking about it anyone is welcome to correct me if i'm wrong will the other fish mind brackish water?

Its a kind of complicated explination, but the water here is very bad, so to do water changes, I either have to borrow a big cooler and get water from a relative who lives outside of the city, or use bottled water, so my tanks aren't going to stay clean enough for keeping mollies in freshwater, I'm thinking. According to the pinned topic about salt and mollies, other fish (danios, cories) won't do well with the salt that mollies need. They need marine salt, not the normal aquarium salt.

I am thinking about some angels, but I worry about them fighting and/or harrassing the other fish. I also need relatively hardy fish because of my water situation...

I think the activity of the danios may would be too much for a gourami. What I would do is a group of the danios with a pair of rams and a group of cories. You could also get a small group of something else... a small tetra or rasbora perhaps.
This would make a nice looking tank, IMO.

Neither of my Angels have ever shown any aggression at all and I've had them for about a year and a half. Of course mine may be a special case. But I think the majority of Angelfish aggression occurs when 2 of them pair off and begin to breed.

If you get one then of course you're ok. If you buy 2 then I guess theres a possibilty they might pair off eventually. I must have gotten 2 of the same sex. Either that or they decided to be "just friends," a guys 2 least favorite words... :p

Hi, mollies need salt and that would burn the corries as they don't have scales.

Sorry

Yeah, I don't want the fish to suffer, so I will nix the idea of mollies. Someday I will have sailfins again, but not this tank.

Could you provide a link about the rams? I haven't heard much about them, and the search won't accept 'ram,' so I am having trouble finding info about them.

I do like the harliqin(sp?) rasbarosas.. I will certainly consider them! :good:

I looked more at pics of angels, and the big ones look kinda freaky to me, maybe its the eyes?

those guys are all right and the angle fish( though a kind of ciclid) in my tank have never shown agression twards each other or other fish(i have 3 by the way) mabe their all the same sex i dunno and the shrimp would be great but with out the gouramies because i once had shrimp and my gouramies tor them apart so mabe not such a good idea , pearsonaly id exnay tha shrimp and get tha gourami instead

German Ram
German Rams... Have to be one of my favorite lookinf fish if i were you this is what i would pick with a school of something else like cardinal tetras. I dont know a ton about them but i think your tank could handle a pair.

And the other link i had seen on here is the bolivian Ram Another pretty fish

Bolivian Ram

someone please correct me if im wrong i have been before

Thanks everyone! If I find a pair of angelfish that I like, I might go with that, but I kind of don't like the looks of most of the pics I see. :/

The first ram you listed I kinda like, but it says its sensitive to water quality, which means I will probably kill it. The second one I would have to see in person to get a good judgement on, but it really just dosen't strike my fancy.

I would really like to go with a blue gourami, a school of danios, a school of harliquin rasbarosas, some corydoras, and a few snails for algae comtrol. I have had a blue gourami with danios before, and he didn't seem bothered by them, but this was in the primitive days before I learned to research fish before I got them. If he looks to be bothered by them, could I put him in my dads 30 gallon with his 7 serpae tetras?
