So I made the mistake of buying some buenos aires tetras. I am rehoming them.

I'd like to put something else in my tank but I'm not sure what. I had seen many sites stating buenos aires needed 6 fish and were peaceful so I want to hear more from people who have kept the fish themselves.

Tank info:
29 gallon
Currently 5 corydoras
City water hardness is 103ppm
Nitrates are 5ppm
Ph is about 7.5

I'd like ideas for a peaceful fish that won't bother my Cory's and that will be active enough that I'll see it.

I am initially thinking angelfish or dwarf gouramis but not sure If they are compatible with the Cory's and If they work with tank size and parameters. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

If u could lower the ph maybe betta or tetra

Hi! 29 gallons is a great size, lots of options! I would add a few Cories, maybe bring the school up to 8? You could add a bristlenose or clown pleco as well. 29 gallons is too small for angelfish unfortunately, but a pair of dwarf gouramis could go well! Many people discourage the purchase of dwarf gouramis as they frequently and most often carry a very specific disease, I don’t know much about it but I’m sure someone else with more info will chime in! Honey gourami are a lovely, small variety, you could have 2-5 in your tank size. Not entirely Sure, but from what I can tell your ph should be fine. Do you know what kind of Cories you have? If you aren’t sure, if you can put up some pictures we can help identify them!

I have albino corycats. :) thanks for the ideas!

The GH is soft (103ppm = 6.7 DGH) so the options are almost endless. Any of the South American fish (tetras, hatchetfish, pencilfish, corydoras catfish, some other loricariids) and many SE Asian fish (rasboras, gourami) are suited so far as water is concerned. Many of these are not active swimmers, so tank space allows for more of them. And it would be easy to have a community where you have fish at each level in the aquarium. Angelfish are too large.

Yes i agree cories should have schools of 6 plus

5 is a LOT better than most people do, I currently have a school of 3 Cory hastatus with a school of 4 Pygmy Cories, sometimes you start off with 6 or more, but things happen and plans change (such as deciding not to keep pygmy Cories anymore), and you just have to make what you have work

I would go with 8x Neon Tetras and 8x Harliquen Rasboras. They go well together in a 29g.

Please, not a Betta in with other fish - they REALLY don’t like it.
I agree. Bettas are solitary by nature, and their aggressive temperament makes them a risky addition to a community tank

Avoid dwarf gouramis, they usually have issues....look at a pearl gourami, instead.

No angels in a tank this size.

As I stated in your other thread, there are many tetras that would work in this tank, as well as rasboras.

i dont think a betta will fit in a 29g with any other fish either, and i never said that bettas should be in a community tank?
idk tho
maybe i did, i have bad memory
