about a week ago, one of my mollies had 23 fry. I am currentley cycleing a tank for them because i dont want to put them in the community tank because im giving them all away and i dont want to take the risk of them getting eaten by my other fish. i have gold fish in my tank so it would probably be a lot longer before i could put them in the community tank because the gold fish would eat the fry. When will i be able to put the fry in the other tank without having to worry about them being sucked up by the filter?
Thank you to any one who replys :)

If you can cover the inlet on your filter, you should be able to add new fry the day they are born. I use a sponge from a commonly used hang on back filter to cover the inlet on my filters. Just cut a slit in the end of the sponge and slip it over the inlet tube. It has the added advantage of acting as an extra biological filter in those tanks. This is the sponge material that I use.

This is that sponge in place about a month later.

I used a nylon stocking lol. (rinsed out very well of course) and tied it over the intake. It's not as bulky as the sponge, but it also won't build the beneficial bacteria either. It's working so far, but I do have an extra sponge, and I really think that I may be switching to that, as it is a great idea and definitely not one I would have thought of in a million years! Thanks!

I adopted your idea :) I took the stocking off and replaced it with a filter sponge as you have shown. Based on your explanation it seemed to be a little more beneficial.
