Because he is going to grow to near on 2ft! So unless your tank is 5-6ft he will need to be rehomed.

in a few year time i can see him going back to the fish shop......................... what are these things worth over a foot long ?

ive seen some pleco's valued at £50 +

LOL!! Probably about 10p... Not many people can house or want a massive Plec. My lfs has about 10-15 adults in... it has done for the last year i have been going.

joking aside there was one in the local fish shop tha was on sale for £85... it was at least 1ft long.

And it will still be there this time next year at that price!

The ones at my LFS are about £20... and they don't sell at that!

sorry to burst your bubble, but nobody wants them because nobody can house them. Most shops get inundated with huge common plecos that have outgrown tanks and the majority of shops won't even accept them because of how notoriously difficult they are to sell. If they even accept them, they certainly won't pay you anything for it.

Thanks for replies... should be interesting to see how big it gets over coming years..... how can you tell diff between male and female Plecos.....?

Unsure if you can tell the difference tbh. But it is certainly unfair to keep it in a tank of your size.
