Well I have all but finished my 200 litre today, last fish went in, finally fitted the air pump and my DIY moonlighting is now up and running. On looking at the fish in my LFS today, I have decided to make my 700 litre a cichlid tank and I already have lots of plans for it. Just waiting on the new sofa to be delivered so there will be room in the lounge for my friend to install the first part of the cabinet system for the tank.

Here are the up to date pictures of the 200 litre

Looks absolutely brilliant mate, really like it! The blue is a bit over powering for me though. Lol.

It looks great and yeah I have to agree the blue is really overpowering

I think the moonlight photo makes it look brighter than it really is, it is a very gentle blue in reality and it only comes on for a couple of hours before 'lights out' for the fish. Looks a little creepy with all the other lights out in the lounge as the blue reflects off my cardinals and neons, plus I get to see the Khuli loaches out, as they are quite shy in the daytime. I must be doing something right for the plants, although I don't know what, as they were all just 1-3 inches when I got them and in a month they are all pretty much breaking the surface of the tank and need regular pruning.

I love moonlight lighting! Lovely tank!

Bargin DIY job with the knowledge of a friend that pimps out cars for a hobby. 1m waterproof strip of blue SMD LED's (£7.99), 12v power adapter (£5.98), few misc bits for mounting on the underside of the lid (£5.00) and about 15 minutes of (very easy) work getting it installed. The set up I was looking at online would of set me back #41#### near £120!!.

Must be some moon to emit light like that..! :hey:

My camera can't seem to handle the rest of the room being dark, so it increases the blueness beyond what it really is, been fiddling with the camera settings and it is somewhere between the original picture and this

Problem which so called advanced cameras, they try to adjust to see in the dark and makes things come out as the wrong brightness

Looks great mate, Looking forward too seeing it grow :) id get a few more plants in there but thats just me

try turning up the brightness and contrast a little, but knock the saturation levels down a bit,
this should give you an almost true to life shot.

also, what did you use to d.i.y the moonlight?
It looks pretty cool

1m waterproof strip of blue SMD LED's that I got off eBay (a friend recommended them as he pimps out cars as a hobby), through a 12v power adapter and connected to a timer to switch it on and off at different times. I have three timers on the tank, for the main lights, moonlights and air pump. It gives the tank a bit of variety during the days cycle.

I am waiting to see how much those plants bulk out over the next few months, I nearly got another today when I got more fish, but when I was talking to the lady getting the fish I totally forgot the plant.

haha, i always leave the shop forgetting at least one thing we needed/wanted.

Mainly becasue the wife distracts me with buying new fish every time we go in!!
Haha.
Last time it was a twig catfish.

I think blue lights like that would be amazing to show off our lampeyes true colour.
I have a a desktop lamp that is a strip of about 20 blue LEDs, and hovered it over the tank to see the effect, but its not practicalm or adequate, so i might invest in some blue leds, and put them inside the hood, and do what you did, on a timer.

These are the lights and the company I went with. Came quickly and great product, comes in different lengths and on reels so you can cut it and wire it to whatever length/combination you want
