so i am thinking of

8 of either rummy nose tetras, black phantom tetras, red eye tetras or harlequin rasboras.

and

3 dwarf honey gouramis (M/F/F), neon rainbowfish, or black ruby barbs

and

red cherry shrimp.

sound good...any other suggestions?

Honey Dwarves , do you know the sexing?

Males : Smaller, but when mating, they'll show more colour.
Females are larger,

1-5" to 2". So if ou stick with the 1" per gallon rule, you could start with M/F/F

Probably you could go with the tetras M/F/F with the gouramis.

Start off slow, though.
So, gouramis first then tetras after a few weeks. :) That might work.

Or, make a true Yellow Dwarf gourami tank, and add in like, 3/6 (M/F) in the tank. 9x2 = 18. (9 fish, x 2")

:) GL buddy, btw the info i wrote about the Yellow Dwarves were gottenoff a site.

How bout a school of small tetras (8) and black ruby barbs (6)?

Thats perfect!

;) I gotta check out the ruby barbs though, if they're compatiable with smal tets.

What tetras you got in mind? :)

Neons, black neons, glow light neons,

Assortment of diff neons?

EDIT : I checked out sites, and it says they're peaceful. (Hey, i've heard of em butI've rarely even bothered checking em out.)

They're gorgeous! From what i've looked up, four is the minimum. Remember, they grow around 2.5- 2 " :D (i think.) :)

Also, can yu get your hands on ANY tetras, or are you stuck with only a few?

(Like me, I can't order, so im stuck with glow lights, neons and black skirts. :D)

What dimensions are the tank? The rainbows need a minimum of 3ft long open swimming room in my opinion, they're pretty active. Likewise for the barbs.
And if you do go with dwarf gourami

Post up dimensions, it'll make it easier to work out what would be most suitable.

I would go with the honey gouramis in favour of the dwarf gouramis, the reason is that dwarf gouramis come with all sorts of problems and are quite prone to bacterial infections. Some small barbs would be suitable such as cherrys or pentazonas.
