20 Gal Aquascaped 1/20/07 (updated Pics 2/21/07

It is filling out quite nicely with variations of greens and leaf size and shape. I would imagine this set up is an excellent learning experience for you.

A little more growth from the Microsorium and the moss, plus a moss trim, and it will look great. The red is still drawing the eye away from the overall picture, though, but has become a little less distracting.

I can clearly see what you are saying, and after looking at the pics the Alternanthera reineckii looks dark in that pic (I should have waited for it to get dark to take the pic) but, i am really liking the contrast of the deep red in one corner and the deep blue in the other corner. It almost gives 2 focal points within the same 24" tank.

I need to trim the moss a bit but i want it to fill out a bit more 1st.

WOW that's the growth after one week!? What happens if you go away for a long holiday? :) lol.

Anyways, IMO I reckon the left hand back corner is slightly empty at the moment. How about moving the plant from the centre to the left and create a 'U' shaped layout?

If you mean the small sword, I have been thinking about where to move it, it's a very slow grower.

Thats amazing. I like that layout alot better! Nice to see the plants are still healthy and colourful. Looks more natural now too.

Thanks a lot. I can't wait for the tank to get to a stable point, meaning trimming still but not needing to do drastic steps.

This is just personal opinion but i think that tank would look 10 ten times better if you swapped out that blue background for a black one :good:

The background is actual blue on one side and black on the other. i had a black one up for a long time the thing is some of the color was lost, the blue seems to bring out the green in the java ferns and moss.

Well I moved the 2 big stems of Alternanthera reineckii into the middle. And I am a big enough man to say i like it better that way.

Coming along nicely. BTW is that anubias on the far left in the substrate or attached to the wood?

Sam

right now it is just kinda under the wood but over the substrate. I am planning on tieing it down this weekend

WEEK 2

Well it's been another week. And I am really starting to see the effects of buying plants at different times and the lack of thinking about the whole scape. The background grows way to fast for my likeing and will require at least a weekly trim of 4-6" of the plants. I can keep replanting the cuttings but I think I would perfer a completely redone tank with a more thought out layout. I have tons of moss 9some done incorectly in this tank and a lot in the 55 gal0 and I am thinking that I am going to wait to redistrubute until I figure out what would be a better layout. The java fern is way to hidden in this layout and I really need more imput from those that know.

Anyway here is the tank before any trimming, I am going to take care of that today, and will repost trimmed pics later tonight.

It just gets better everytime. Looks very natural. One again, good work! :good:

You have a nice blend of Nature and Dutch Aquarium going on there. There are some real interesting colours and leaf shapes, that I bet will light up the room.

Don`t worry about having to prune all the time, at least you are not chucking out dead plants and replacing with new.

I think it's just that bug that catches us all the time the "rescape" bug that doesn't allow us to ever be completely happy with a scape.

However I'm not making any big changes in the tank at this point. the next time I do rescape I am going to try something completely different..........

I'll post some pics tonight after I do trimmings

Never ever ever say things like this, So I went to trim some of the plants and all of a sudden the light pieces of driftwood started to float up. ( They didn't float last time when I put them in i think bebuase of how they were positioned in the tank) well anyway as they floated up and around they took out some of the other plants and basicly just made a huge mess.

So.......... I was forced to remove everything to reposition the wood.

In doing so I wanted to retie the Java moss as I have read more about this and realized that I had my clumps way to thick

I also wanted to repostion the java fern on the main piece of wood, and attach the anubus to that same wood.

some of the plants and the 1 skinny piece of driftwood I decided to put back

I also did switch the background back to the black side, after the sun goes down I will take a full tank shot.

Oh,no !
Makes you want to cry, doesn't it ?

So sorry;your tank was looking fantastic.

On the plus side though your plant' growth rate was pretty amazing and we are all constantly learning, so this time it will be even better.....!

Good luck for the new aquascaping.
