Hello everyone I am new to this site I just joined. I have 13 fish in a 39 gallon tank, I am very new to fish so I can not really tell you what types other then 2 neon tetras 2 swordtails and a black tetra. Not too sure of the rest.

I have one fish that had a sudden outbreak of white puffy parasites, and another is just huge now and hovers near the top. I have a video of both sorry for the quality, any help would be great.

Pregnant/Bloat?

Poor guy with parasites, any help on what to do would be great.

Hiya :) dont worry, we'll get things sorted ;)

ok the first looks like a pregnant platy to me, a while to go yet though, maybe 2 weeks.

the guy with parasites, i cant see anything as hes swimming fast lol - what does it look like? can you get a picture? is he in a hospital tank?

overall - we're gonna need your water stats (nitrites, ammonia, nitrates, pH if poss), and details of your tank, fish, filtration. If you dont know, just take a picture or ten

Thank you for such a speedy reply :) I have to go out for a little bit but as soon as I get some I will get you some better pictures. I have an Air Pump I think after looking online, thank you for telling me about the pregnancy :) I am not sure how to keep the others from eating the babies :p maybe I need to get it a safe area? The one with the parasites they look almost like tiny white cotton balls they have hairs that dangle in the current, also had a cotton like build up over one eye but after putting it in its own tank and adding a tiny bit of Fungus Eliminator its clearing on its eyes a bit, I was not sure if that was the right thing to give it but it did seem to help a little. Its been in its own tank for 2 days now, some other fish in my main tank are bouncing off objects in the tank almost as if they are trying to rub something off their skin but I do not see anything on them.

the Ph i can test as soon as i get home, but I believe its high PH hard water type ><.

anyways thank you for the help :)

no probs. ok you need to get a liquid test kit to test your water. thats important.
the fact that the other fish are flicking and rubbing suggests something is irritating them, parasite, bacterial infection, could be anything. I would imagine you need a broad spectrum antibacterial medication to help with this, but as im pretty new to this fish keeping thing i wouldnt want to be relied upon for advice lol - just wait for someone else to answer (hopefully Wilder will answer)
Certainly implies something is wrong, but im sure its fixable ;)

Anyway, if you can, get a liquid test kit and test your water today. Get some pics of the fungus/stringy stuff too, and the fish you have

Im in the UK so off to bed now, but dont worry, it'll get sorted out now you're on here :D

We need to know your water stats.

Any fish showing these signs.
Flicking and rubbing.
Darting.
Excess mucas or slime.
Greyish white patches.
Spots. Yellow, white.
White or gold dusting on fish.
Erratic swimming.
laboured breathing, or gasping at surface of tank.
Does the fish have any cotton wool patches on them, or white mouth, or strands coming from the mouth.
The strand coming from the ball does it look like a parasite, or a strand of cotton.
Any red sores, or red pin prick marks on the fish body or gills.
Do the gills look pale with excess mucas, or red and inflamed.

Thanks for the reply, I will watch them and try look for any of those signs. I bought a water testing kit last night but it only tests the PH, It looks like mine is super high in PH, maybe like 7.6 or higher 7.6 is the highest number on the color chart that came with the kit.

Yea even right now I see three of my fish taking turns bouncing off a little house roof I have in there, one of my neon tetras is biting as he is swimming but he is very old. My swordtails are just swimming up and down the glass, not sure if that is normal.

The fish I have in his own tank has like little white cotton ball sores and yes I now see a bit of red by his gills.

I can't make much out in the vid i'm afraid.

Red gills can be bad water quality, bacterial gill rot, gill flukes.

Test your tap ph please.

Do the fish swim in a jerky movement.

For now add a least half the dose of the fungus eliminator.

Have you added any new fish to the tank in the last week.

We really need other water stats in ammonia, nitrite.
As bad water quality can cause bouncing off objects, flicking and rubbing, darting.
That's why we need to real bad water quality out first.

Okay thank you, I can try get a nice close in pic of him, I will go ahead and buy a better water testing kit. I did recently move them into a large tank, I had 13 in a 4 gallon tank so I thought that was way too crowded and decided to put them in my other tank I had used in the past. I think it is like 39 gallons but I am not 100%. I did use tap water but I used aqua plus water treatment hoping that would be okay. There was no problem until about 1 week in this new tank, and yes I added 3 more fish right before the change.

Ok.
Did you match temp and ph when you moved the fish.

Immediate water change and increase aeration.
Add the correct amount of med back to water removed.

Get tank water tested at the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

Put your tank measurements in the calculator at the top of the forum.

Post pics of each type of fish you unsure of so members can tell you which fish they are.
Post the pics in tropical discussion.

Always research the fish before you buy. Tank size, adult size of fish, compatibility.

Yeah, I will have to get the water tested tomorrow :( but I checked the ph of the tap water too and it is off the charts for ph, must be higher then 7.6. I did match up the temps before I did a change and I have the 2 tanks side by side so it was very fast. So just bring a small vial of water to the fish store and they can tell me everything? I took some pictures of the fish and will post them in that section, would be great to know what I all have, some of the fish were a gift and they did not tell me the names :p

Yes one of my fish was swimming very darty and sporadically he did stop however after I added in some stress coat and some stress zyme, I hope that was okay, but I do feel my fish are fighting off some sort of parasite or infection.

How are the fish today?

Good morning :) The fish seem a lot better today, one of them is still going to the house roof and bouncing off it, it is shaped like ^ kind of so maybe they just like it? I am going to the fish store soon to get the water tested and get some plants for the tank. Can you think of anything else I should get?

Edit: The one in the hospital tank is doing a lot better as well. Almost all of those things are off him and his eyes are nice and clean again. Looks like it may have been a fungus but I am still getting the water tested very soon.

Just got back they told me not to get plants as my nitrates are .50 my PH is 7.6 and my ammonia is 0 but he said those nitrates are a problem and they would kill plants, so he got me to hold off on those, sounds like maybe my tank is just dirty ? hmm he said do a 50% change but that is going to be hard for me to get the right temp into 15 gallons.

okay about to do a water change. I am only going to do 5 gallon change for now. I have aqua plus and also I bought some "Stability" New Tank Stabilization System.
