2 Panda Corys Died And 1 Not Looking Good, Pls Help

Dont use meths blue, it will kill the filter, melafix is good for open wounds, to be honest lots of water changes would probably be as good and cheaper.
Whats the substrate? theres got to be a reason why the barbels were worn down.
Theres no reason to leave your water for 24 hours to check the nitrates, its the ph you need to leave for 24 hours to check as being in the pipe under presure it can change.
Also carbon needs to be run for 24hours, a few hours isnt enough

Some methylene blue like king british dosn't effect the filter now.
Members on here tell you to leave the nitrate test for 24 hours for a true reading.
Yes carbon does have to be run for at least two days, but she was only using a mild tonic so I wouldn't worry.
I agree that sharp substrate can wear the barbels down, but short thin barbels are a sign of a bacterial infection.

I have gravel at the bottom of the tank, I do a water change of 10 litres once a week and clean also. My PH has always been high, mind you my tap water show about 7.4 (I think) instead of playing around with chemicals to try and reduce it, I thought I'd leave it, my other fish seem happy.

I feed a small ( very small and it gets eaten) amount of flake food every day and frozen bloodworms once maybe twice a week. Have I overfed?? All the food got eaten and I hoovered it out once a week

You didnt state that :)

All due respect to other members, not all are right, why would the nitrates drop over time when theres nothing to remove them?

Again, you didnt state that

One point I agree with

Need to introduce more frozen foods and veg in there diet.
Don't mess with the ph its not worth it.

I agree with you on the nitrate as I've noticed it dosnt change after half an hour anyway.

Loobie don't add that tonic there a waste of money.
Just some daily water changes for now.

Okay Dokey

Will just keep on with the water changes until I can get the proper stuff to help them. I keep trying with the vegs but like my kids they don't seem to like them very much, probably my cooking :D

I have one of those variety packs of frozen food, the ones that have bloodworms, mosquito larve, daphnia? and some other ones, should I cut down on the flake food and substitute it with the frozen stuff?

I can but have a go

Yes mroe frozen foods.
Good luck.

Hi Guys

I finally been able to buy a new carbon in order to take the liquisil out, and I have bought some Melafix and Pima fix, which of these should I use, I was think about medicating in the morning, would this be ok if the carbon has only just gone in tonight??

I appreciate the replys

Is there any sick fish in the tank, if not don't medicate.

Nope, no sick looking ones, mind you the ones that died didn't look sick either

I was going to treat them for an internal bacteria just incase, cos I can't loose anymore, if they show some signs it'd be nice! Would it be bad if I treat them and they don't have any internal bacteria, the poo of my platy isn't looking normal, it's a little stringy

I asked before about what meds were best to have in the house, are the ones I have bought a good selection or would you recommend another? I think they do different things? Just don't want to use them if I should have bought another type, hopefully I'll be able to exchange it!?

All fish carry parasites it just takes stress for it to kick off, once there infested with them they do alot of damage to the inside of the fish.
Once bacterial infections happen on top its already to late.

So should I treat them then, if I can't see any symptoms??
