I have just got back today and checked in on my fish before bedtime and found that two of them have died and the other is on the bottom of the tank looking VERY sad. :( :(

There have been no symptoms feeding well yesterday all fine this morning and then died. My last one is really looking quite poorly very lathargic no moving breathing rapidly, I really have no clue as to what is the cause. I have done a 10 litre water change and added some Liquisil General Tonic as I don't know what to specifically treat. :/

Any ideas would be most welcome.

My Stats are Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 PH 8.2 (always has been) and Nitrate between 30, I have a Juwel Rekord 60 whioch is 54 litres, I think that's 12 gallons??

Not sounding good with the one left bless them, check the barbels to see if they have gone thinner and shorter, has the cory darkened in colour, very prone to bacterial infections.

Thanks Wilder

Yep they are a little shorter and thinnish, but I haven't noticed any change since I got them, as they were juniors and not full size. His / her colouring maybe a little faded, I had one that was darker than the others.

I don't want to loose him cos they are lovely fish, I'm soooo sad

I've got a hospital tank and I was going to put it in there and dip with meth blue but it's not cycled yet!! Have I done the right thing with the liquisil??

Sounds bacterial if the barbels have changed.
Need a bacterial med that tonic no good waste of money to be honest.
Myxazin waterlife, or interpet anti internal bacteria.

im not sure but you should try to find out why your nitrates are so high. 30 . is very high, it should be as low as possible if not 0. your filter may have been contaminated during a cleaning or food build up check everything

30 not a high nitrate reading, some members can't get it any lower depends on there tap nitrate reading.
Anything above 50.

That is Nitrate and NOT Nitrite?!

Granted I don't know as much as others on this site, but I thought that anything below 50 was acceptable (obviously the lower the better) and that you cannot get a 0 Nitrate level as it's in the tap water???

Have I been mislead all this time??

Wilder you must type faster than me!!!

Its fine don't panic, just check your tap nitrate reading leave it 24 hours for a true reading.

That will tell you if you can get it any lower, mine higher and I've had no trouble.

Because I feel I could open up a fish pharmacy with all the meds I have got, what are some good ones to have 'in' to cover the various problems??

Cos when fish start dying on you at 10pm I can't find any shops open to buy meds, you gotta use what you have and I'm not really sure what to use when there are no symptoms?

Off I got to the shops tomorrow (kerching!!!)

Thanks for your help, I'll see how the little guy is in the morning, here's hoping he perks up a bit

If I have Liquisil'd the whole tank, in order to get the med out again, do I do this by water changes and putting the black sponge in??

It's great adding meds and seeing your fish get better but they don't tell you how to get it out again, it'd be nice to know for definate, please

Water change and black carbon for a few hours, then add the med.
Good luck hope he gets well loobie

Thanks for help wilder, will no doubt be on tomorrow to give the outcome. :)

Found my cory this afto :( :(

Still don't know what caused it, and I've been unable to get the meds suggested. I've done another 10 litre water change this afto, until I'm able to get to the shops.

I feel as though I'm doing so well and then you get a knock down like this, it's so sad

Does melafix do the same sort of thing as Meth Blue??

Sorry R.I.P.
Panda corys I have them and they are the weakest of all the corys.
They need excellent water quality and clean gravel.
Methylene blue is used for whitespot, gill flukes, and aeration.
Melafix is an excternal bacteria med for cut and wounds.
