2 Of My Cherry Shrimp Have Saddled!

I am so excited! I saw 2 of my shrimp today with saddles on them. I on my way to having a very cool shrimp tank.

Congrats, I thought my shrimp weren't populating until I siphoned the gravel and saw a billion tiny babies. Gravel vacs have never been the same again haha

Congratz! After about two-three months my population doubled from 10-20. Would have tripled if some of the original 10 weren't near the end of their life when I got them.

But now there's a ton of little guys at the bottom, some even started saddling themselves!

do shrimp breed like livebearers or are they picky about water?

I've read other people say that shrimps will only breed when they're happy. RCS aren't too picky about water, but if they're scared due to larger or predatory fish then they probably wont be very eager. Also if the water temp is on the low side it'll take longer to saddle and drop fry, oppositely so with high temps.

Any chance you could get a picture of a saddled RCS? I've recently started a shrimp tank of my own, and I'd be interested in comparing shrimp!

Unfortunately the light is out and I've been waiting for a new one to arrive at my lfs for two weeks now. With very red rcs's it can be harder to see the saddle.

I just noticed today that 2 shrimp have berried. Im having a heck of a time getting pics of them but as soon as i do I will post them. I am really excited. One of the berried RCS isn't one of the ones that I saw had a saddle and i thought it was a male LOL One of the ones that were saddled is still saddled. Is that normal? Its been 11 days? IS that normal?

Sometimes some of mine take their time. Some people say they dont bang right away because they're unhappy, but I see all of them buzzing about all the time. Why right now I'm watching a saddled female try to tear apart an algea wafer I dropped in for a snail.
