I went to petco to kill time waiting for my GF to get out of work, well, that was not a good idea. I did not bring my wallet with me on purpose so I did not buy anything with money that I really don't have. Well, I ended up buying 2 fish an hour later.

1x Melanochromis johannii

1x Pseudotropheus elongatus, atleast he looks like this one, I will get the real name later on today.

I have 2 aratus in my tank now, one of them is now almost all black. Was worried but he seems just the same, slightly more aggresive but no more then the others. My JD usually puts him in his place. :)

I wouldn`t of put a Melonchromis Johanni and an Melonochromis Auratus together TBH. You never know they might be OK.

I don't see why they wouldn't be ok. I heard all types of horror stories about the aratus killing a tank or doing some horrible damage but I have yet to see any of that type of aggression.

The only way I can introduce new fish to my 55 is to grow the pretty big in a community tank, I guess they feel more dominant in there, then transfer them into the mbuna tank.

I tend to find out for my self if something works or not because all the words going over the net don't always add up with my experiences.

Also, here is the actual name for the other fish I got

Pseudotropheus socolofi
Mine has black bands on its body, yet at the store, its called this and I guess these are not suppose to have black bands?

Fair enough see how it goes, it`s not recommended to mix Striped Melonochromis species .

Hope the get big soon. :) Also , I don't know why I said he had black stripes. I looked at him again and he didn't. Maybe he was stressed when I first brought him home and he darkend up....

What do you mean when you say mix, striped species? Like mixing Pseudotropheus elongatus with a bumble bee?

No Striped Melonchromis. i.e. Auratus with another striped Melonochromis species such as Johanni.

love the fact you just went an brort them cichlids are great i only have enough room for dwarf cichlids t/b

brort? You mean bought?

Ya im really bad when it comes to not spending money on fish. I love them and will always. I have floor plans to build a house that houses 2 20,000 gallon aquariums in the basement. You would be able to walk into this chamber that fill with water (you in scuba gear) and then you can walk into the aquariums that tower 3 feet above your head.

hehe. Dreams, they never end :)
